Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy, OTR /L, eligibility for NC license in Occupational Therapy, three years experience in outpatient pediatric OT. Experience working with pediatric populations from birth to adolescence with diagnoses such as autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, sensory processing disorder, developmental delay, genetic disorders, disorders related to extreme prematurity and low birth weight, congenital disabilities and trauma. Experience conducting evaluations and providing interventions tailored to children with various developmental, sensory, motor, and behavioral challenges. Experience with one or more of the following: sensory integration/sensory processing disorders, assistive technology, feeding therapy, and neurodevelopmental techniques.

License/Certification Required

Initial NBCOT certification; NC licensure in occupational therapy (or eligible)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Department of Rehabilitation Sciences in the Beaver College of Health Sciences ( BCHS ) at Appalachian State University invites applications for a pediatric occupational therapist to provide services on our Boone campus and provide clinical education to graduate students.

The primary worksite will be the Interprofessional Appalachian Institute for Health and Wellness Clinic on the first floor of University Hall on the Boone campus.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Provide pediatric outpatient evaluation and treatment services in the areas of sensory integration/sensory processing and feeding/eating.
  • Provide screening evaluations for young infants as part of an interdisciplinary program for the early detection of complex medical disorders.
  • Interact with other disciplines (speech-language pathology, social work, music therapy) in an interprofessional clinical setting.
  • Provide clinical supervision for MSOT students in Level 1 and Level 2 fieldwork assignments.
  • Document service provision according to clinic and payor guidelines.
Suggested Salary Range
$80,000 - $90,000 depending on qualifications

Physical Demands of Position

Must be able to move around a clinic, including standing, squatting, sitting and working with clients on the floor. Must be able to move and maneuver pieces of equipment up to 40 pounds in weight, lift small children to enable access to equipment, lift equipment overhead, and straighten the clinic between clients.
