The department of Athletics at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Director of Information Technology.

About the Opportunity

The purpose of this position is to provide first, second and third-level technical support, for on-site and some telephone-based technical support in solving significantly complex technical problems involving information technology. Both PC based and Apple computers will be supported by this position along with Cell Phones and Tablets. This position will also be expected to take calls from Staff and Coaches 24/7.

Under supervision, this position will research problems and follows process solutions to resolve desktop hardware/software related issues, tests and implements solutions, develops documentation and materials to support business needs in response to user problems and questions regarding their systems.

This position will also be responsible for support of Ticket Scanners when needed by the Event staff or Ticket Office. This position will also be on site during all Home Football Games. This position will alternate being on site for all home Men’s Basketball Games and also be available to be on site for other events as requested.

What You'll Do
  • Follow policies, processes, procedures and associated documentation in compliance with the Information Technology Service Department development and security standards, federal and university privacy, confidentiality, and security guidelines relative to securing personal information (generated, stored and/or transmitted electronically) maintained in supported systems
  • Develop and maintain detailed records and documentation, including: maintenance/error/repair records, development/implementation/performance standards and schedules, system cost estimates and analysis, equipment and software maintenance contracts, etc.
  • Develop, implement and maintain University infrastructure systems and equipment. This position manages the delivery of second-level and third-level, on-site, technical support for the Department of Athletics. The systems supported by this position directly or indirectly affect functionality Athletics.
  • Follow policies, processes, procedures and associated documentation in compliance with the Information Technology Service Department development and security standards, federal and university privacy, confidentiality, and security guidelines relative to securing personal information (generated, stored and/or transmitted electronically) maintained in supported systems.
  • Prepare technical documentation, including interpretation of business rules, flow charts, logic diagrams, and code, according to Information Technology Services documentation standards.
  • Must be available to Work all Home Football Games.
  • Must be available to alternate working all home Men’s Basketball Games.
  • Expected to be on call 24/7 for any number of issues to keep down times to a minimum.
  • Set up Configure all New and Replacement cell phones for Staff Members with email, MDM and data transfer using iCloud or other software that may be needed.
  • Activate, reconfigure network switches
  • Knowledge for IPTV systems
  • Must have some Paciolan, DVSport, Asset Management and MDM knowledge.
  • SCCM and Azure knowledge would be beneficial in day-to-day tasks.
  • Update and Maintain Athletic Dept. Inventory Software (WASP)– Tag Machines, record Serial Numbers, check out, check in, move and dispose.
  • Update and maintain all 9 of the servers that we support for DVSport, SportsTec, Nice Camera System and Video servers for Hall of Traditions.
  • Provide consulting and assistance to all Athletic staff, who use network and information services provided by or in use with WVU programs/systems in compliance with WVU ITS policies as well as applicable Federal and State requirements.
  • Troubleshoots problems with: Network connectivity; telephone systems to include VOIP; computer hardware; various software packages to include MyID, MAP, MyAccess, Oracle, MyTime, DVSport, and all other WVU sponsored systems; AD controlled accounts; login and password issues; networked and non-networked printer problems; assorted miscellaneous computer and peripheral equipment issue.
  • Have the ability to research and order new computers, specific peripherals, adapters or any type of requested devices
  • Must know all Apple Products and accessories.
  • Must know all Android Products and accessories.
  • Apple DEP knowledge along with JAMF MDM.
  • Good communication skills are a must.
  • Must be able to work quickly and while under pressure to get systems back up and running.
  • With the guidance of supervisor, will recommend the design and development of improved processes to streamline
    and improve operational functions within ITS Operations.
  • Perform multiple tasks with the ability to prioritize where appropriate.
  • Acts as backup to other positions as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor or other Management within Athletics.
  • Maintain knowledge and comply with all rules, regulations, policies and guidelines of West Virginia University, the Big 12 Conference, and the NCAA.
  • Must adhere to NCAA Bylaw 11.1 Conduct of Athletic Personnel. Failure to adhere to these polices will result in appropriate disciplinary action including possible suspension and termination.
  • Represent the University on the highest professional level with dignity, integrity, and strength of character and will exhibit ethical behavior. Must respect the rights and dignity of individuals with sensitivity to problems that may arise from racial, ethical, and sexual orientation differences.
  • Demonstrate a cooperative attitude towards all sports within the intercollegiate athletic program
  • Possess the ability to adapt to any situation, make decisions and work independently; position must have the ability to build and maintain relationships with student-athletes, coaches, staff members and contractors; required to use creative abilities to develop new techniques and approaches in dealing with many issues controlled by this position; responsibilities of the position are ever-changing and require constant research and education; requires the ability to adapt to any situation and make decisions.
  • Manage sensitive and confidential information related to student-athletes, coaches and staff utilizing discretion and correct decisions. Failure to use proper discretion at required level could result in major and significant embarrassment to the University and/or have a significant impact on image, revenues and eligibility of student-athletes.
  • Manage time sensitive-issues, tight deadlines, extended hours beyond the normal workday, weekend work, and on-call availability.
Qualifications :
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience involving:
    • Technical experience in a computer-related customer support field
    • Configuring PC and Apple computers (installation of software and system)
    • Operating multiplatform systems over a LAN and provide support for productivity software
    • Instructing clients on the use of their computer system
  • Must be able to provide advanced technical support for various hardware platforms, operating systems, and software packages (including Microsoft Office and Outlook).
  • Complex problem-solving skills and excellent research skills are required.
  • Working knowledge of Windows and Windows Server systems.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of Apple Desktop/Laptop product line, and in-depth troubleshooting skills with their operating systems.
  • Must be able to write technical information and/or instructions for the general user population to comprehend, follow and understand. Must have a strong general education and demonstrated command of written and spoken English as well as interpersonal skills to interact with faculty, staff, students and parents in the WVU community to explain concepts regarding how computers and computer applications function within WVU.
  • Must have ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously and be able to make decisions independently. Must be able to articulate clearly and concisely to a wide variety of multi-cultural users.
  • Excellent customer service is essential.
