Job Details

The Lab's long-term goal is to identify bacterial strains and compounds that will be leads for new approaches to prevent and treat infections due to nasal bacterial pathobionts and respiratory viruses. To achieve this, we are elucidating the molecular mechanisms for interspecies interactions in the human nasal microbiome. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in molecular microbiology, host-microbe and microbe-microbe interactions, extensive experience in bioinformatics, and a proven track record of developing and managing bioinformatic pipelines and data analysis solutions.

Job Duties
  • Oversees the development and implementation of various bioinformatic workflows to analyze human nasal microbiota and the interactions between human nasal bacteria and human nasal epithelial organoids. These include workflows for metabolic modeling, microbial genomics and pangenomics, host and/or bacterial transcriptomics, single-cell transcriptomics and host and/or bacterial metabolomics.
  • Manages the design and development of these bioinformatic workflows including research, assessment, configuration, validation, and customization of third-party bioinformatics software, as well as integration of multiple tools into modular analysis pipelines to automate analysis needs.
  • Oversees the lab data management plan to ensure data integrity and long-term data retention.
  • Manages the development of data recording tools and documentation protocols to ensure traceability and reproducibility in all lab research activities.
  • Collaborates closely with all lab members to facilitate impactful research and ensure uniform practices and bioinformatics analysis procedures across all the microbiome studies in the lab to guarantee data compatibility and cross analysis within projects.
  • Develops innovative solutions, including custom data analysis tools, for data analysis and data visualization.
  • Provides analysis for grants and manuscripts and participates in manuscript and grant preparation with a focus on bioinformatics, statistical analysis, and reproducibility in data analysis.
  • Supervises and trains more junior bioinformatics personnel.
  • Teaches and assists students and other lab personnel with basic bioinformatic techniques, e.g., graphing data and performing statistical analysis.
  • Designs and orchestrates practical training modules in the use of bioinformatics and data analysis tools for microbiologists.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education Required: PhD in relevant biological or computational field.
  • Experience Required: Six years of relevant microbial bioinformatics experience.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred Experience: At least 4 years of managerial experience related to bioinformatic analysis of microbes.
