Position Overview

Primary Purpose of the Position

The Department of World Languages and Cultures is seeking a candidate for an Adjunct Faculty position for the Fall 2024 fall semester to teach Elementary Chinese I and II.

The candidate should be able to teach Chinese language and culture courses. In addition, the candidate must teach assigned face-to-face classes, hold office hours, participate in the department’s cultural events, and adhere to department and university policies. The position can be renewed upon funding availability.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The Department of World Languages and Cultures offers an undergraduate degree in Spanish and a minor in Chinese, French, Portuguese, Spanish and Swahili programs. Our innovative academic language programs prepare students to assume leading roles in society, industry, and the academy.

Minimum Experience/Education
  • Master’s Degree or higher, with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Chinese, from a four-year accredited institution.
  • One or more years of experience teaching foreign languages and cultures courses to undergraduate students both face-to-face and online.
  • Native or Native-like Chinese and English language proficiency
Normal Work Schedule

Morning, afternoon and evenings. Varies depending on the departmental needs.

The successful candidate must demonstrate communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a commitment to a liberal arts education in a linguistically and culturally diverse educational environment.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
  • PhD. in Chinese Linguistics, pedagogy, literature or related field from a four-year accredited institution.
  • Three or more years of experience teaching both low-division and upper-division literature or culture to undergraduate students face-to-face or online.
