Position Title: (Part-time) Instructional Technologist  

Reports To: Senior Instructional Designer, Center for Online Learning  

Office: Center for Online Learning 


The Center for Online Learning (COL) at Hudson County Community College seeks a part-time Instructional Technologist to collaborate in the design, development, and maintenance of fully online, remote, hybrid, and technology enhanced learning experiences across a variety of disciplines. The Instructional Technologist also provides support and assistance to faculty and students in the use of teaching and learning technologies through workshops, documentation, email, and real-time support.  


Summary of Duties


Position responsibilities include:  

  • Collaborate in the design, development, and maintenance of fully online, remote, hybrid, and enhanced learning experiences across a variety of disciplines.  
  • Ensure courses and content meet Universal Design for Learning and accessibility standards.   
  • Provide faculty training and professional development on the Canvas learning management system and other instructional technologies.  
  • Evaluate and improve online courses based on nationally recognized quality standards.   
  • Support faculty and students in the use of online course content.  
  • Support student technology issues and troubleshoot technologies relevant to online learning.  
  • Research emerging technologies, new applications, and online learning tools for further evaluation and implementation.  
  • Track, prioritize, and communicate about multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.  
  • Complete other responsibilities as assigned.  




Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Curriculum and Instruction, Information Technology, or a related field.  
  • Demonstrated experience with one or more of the major Learning Management Systems (preference given to Canvas experience).
  • Ability to interact with a culturally diverse population and to effectively and respectfully function and communicate within the context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities, and cultural backgrounds.   

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience building online courses or supporting instructional technology.
  • Experience teaching asynchronous online courses.
  • Experience enhancing the accessibility of learning materials.
  • Experience with faculty professional development, training, and support.  
  • Commitment to exploring the applications of generative AI tools in an academic setting.

The College offers 70 degree and certificate programs and more than 300-day, evening, and weekend courses throughout its three-campus network.
