Position: Assistant Professor of Health Science (Population Health)
Effective Date: August 19, 2024 (Fall Semester)
Salary: The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary is $5,405 to $11,994/per month (12 monthly payments per academic year). The anticipated hiring range is $7,333 to $7,416/per month. Salary offered is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Public Health or a closely related field including, but not limited to, program tracks/concentrations related to Population Health, Health Promotion/Health Behavior, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Global Health, Environmental Health, Health Management/Policy, or a closely related discipline. Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 17, 2024.
  • Demonstrated potential for teaching Health Science at the college level
  • Demonstrated potential for developing courses in the Health Science major (e.g., Population Health, Global Health, Community Health and/or related courses).
  • Demonstrated potential for developing a line of research, scholarly and creative activities, as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and presentations
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated potential or willingness to implement multiple teaching modalities (e.g., face-to-face, hybrid, online learning) and teaching strategies
  • Demonstrated potential or effectiveness in publishing in peer-reviewed journals
  • Demonstrated potential or effectiveness in applying apply for external funding.
  • Demonstrated potential or willingness to provide service to the department, college, and campus and/or in the community or profession
  • Experience of successfully working with populations demographically and socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body

  • Teach in the Department of Health Science using techniques that support diverse student success [Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, online, and/or any combination thereof.]
  • Engage in interdisciplinary collaborative efforts
  • Engage in the development and maintenance of the undergraduate and graduate curricular offerings, including accreditation-related activities
  • Engage in mentoring and advise undergraduate and graduate students
  • Develop and engage in an active research agenda
  • Engage in the dissemination of research in refereed academic outlets and discipline-specific professional meetings
  • Seek and apply for external funding to support research agenda
  • Engage in activities that support diversity, equity, and inclusion on campus, in local and global communities, and the profession
  • Engage in service to the department, college, university, community, and profession

The department has received over $10 Million in federal funding to develop new interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate certificates in Public Health Informatics and Technology, which will be offered across California. The department also offers undergraduate and graduate degree options, and intends to add a terminal degree option in Public Health (i.e., DrPH). These exciting changes align well with the University's recent R2 designation. The department houses the Center for Health Equity Research and Center for Latino Community Health, Evaluation and Leadership Training. Through these centers and community-based partnerships, the department engages in training, research and service aimed at understanding and addressing the unique needs of underserved populations to enhance their health and well-being.
