Division of Research, Innovation & Impact
NextGen Precision Health
Job Description
The Division of Research, Innovation & Impact, NextGen Precision Health is currently looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow.
This postdoctoral position is intended for STEM PhDs who are looking to use their training in a non-faculty career path that remains closely connected to academic research. Research Development (RD) is a fast-growing field that supports traditional laboratory research, with work that includes grant proposal development, research team building, and infrastructure building. The intention of this postdoctoral experience is to equip a person with the fundamental skills needed to establish and run a unit-level RD office at a research university. This position is intended to be 1 year, with a potential for a 1-year renewal.
This position will primarily focus on scientific editing and will lead the trainee to develop an advanced grantsmanship skillset by critically evaluating grant proposals and navigating the proposal development process. Additionally, the position will select rotations in the RD field (project management, workshop development, etc.) to develop a broad understanding of RD career paths, while developing a personal working style that contributes to a productive research support team.
Strong writing and communication skills are critical for success in this position. If you are someone who spent your PhD wishing that you could spend more time writing, this postdoctoral role is likely a good fit.
The selected candidate will work with a NextGen Precision Health Research Development Lead to critically evaluate grant proposals and make editorial suggestions related to narrative flow, readability, scientific writing conventions, sponsor compliance, persuasive impact, and other grant writing concerns. After an initial training period, the postdoctoral position will independently provide proposal development support to faculty investigators, beginning with scientific editing and gradually taking on more complex tasks, including interdisciplinary team building and project management.
Hours: Monday-Friday; 8 am to 5 pm
Qualifications
The qualified candidate will have a M.D. or PhD degree by start of the appointment.
The Candidate will be evaluated on having their PhD in STEM Discipline

Company
The University of Missouri was founded in 1839 in Columbia, Mo., as the first public university west of the Mississippi River and the first state university in Thomas Jefferson's Louisiana Purchase territory. MU provides all the benefits of two universities in one — it's a major land-grant institution and Missouri's largest public research university.
Considered one of the nation's top-tier institutions, Mizzou has a reputation of excellence in teaching and research, and is the flagship campus of the four-campus University of Missouri System. It is one of only 34 public universities, and the only public institution in Missouri, to be selected for membership in the Association of American Universities. MU offers more than 280 degree programs — including more than 75 online degree options — and is designated as comprehensive doctoral with medical/veterinary by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
Mizzou is recognized nationally and receives top rankings for its programs in many areas, including journalism, dispute resolution, family and community medicine, campus writing program and Freshman Interest Groups. As one of only six public universities in the country with medicine, veterinary medicine and law all on one campus, MU provides Missouri with an educated work force of doctors, veterinarians and lawyers.
At Mizzou, we know how to make an impact—and our work reaches far beyond our campus. When you become part of our community, you’ll be part of our collective effort to teach, to learn and to drive change that results in better lives and brighter futures for the world.

We support an engaged and energized university community through competitive medical, dental and vision insurance as well as diverse programs to support whole-person wellness.
Mizzou empowers employees to make a lasting financial plan with retirement plan options, some of which are accessible to all faculty and staff, no matter their eligibility for other benefits.
Mizzou is a world-renowned educational and research institution, and our first-rate faculty, staff and students are part of something big. If you’re looking for a vibrant community that offers endless opportunities to grow and make a difference throughout our state, the nation and the world, our university may be the place for you.
