Hudson County Community College (HCCC) seeks a Library Social Media Specialist (part-time) to join its award-winning and nationally recognized institution. Hudson County Community College serves one of the most ethnically diverse and densely populated communities in the United States. More than 90% of HCCC’s students receive scholarships, grants, and loans to finance their education, and the College’s extensive financial aid program helps connect students with the resources they need. To date, the College’s Foundation has raised over $3.5 million for student scholarships, and HCCC ranks first in the state of New Jersey for its award of Community College Opportunity Grant funds. About half of its more than 12,000 credit students identify as Hispanic, and more than 33% of all students were born outside of the U.S. In 2021, HCCC had two students selected from a national applicant pool to receive the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Foundation’s Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship.


Hudson County Community College has three campuses. The largest campus is located at the heart of Jersey City’s Journal Square, which is approximately 20 minutes from New York City. The College has a North Hudson Campus, located in Union City, New Jersey and an additional location at the Hudson County Schools of Technology in Secaucus, New Jersey. The College offers 70 degree and certificate programs and more than 300-day, evening, and weekend courses throughout its three-campus network.


HCCC has two campus Libraries that provide welcoming common spaces that encourage exploration, creation, and collaboration between students, faculty, and a broader community.  Our resources include a collection comprised of over 60,000 print and online books, 130 online databases, and approximately 67,000 periodicals (mostly online), nearly 2,000 DVDs, and a number of select streaming videos.  In support of our many English Language Learners, our ESL collection offers a rich array of fiction and non-fiction books categorized by reading level to meet a variety of needs.  The HCCC Libraries, located on the Journal Square and North Hudson Campuses, support students, faculty research, and curricular needs through a curated collection of print and online resources.


Position Summary:

Reporting directly to the Dean of College Libraries, the Library Social Media Specialist will be responsible for creating, editing, and posting engaging social media content to promote library services, programs, and events. This position offers a fantastic opportunity to utilize social media platforms in shaping the digital presence of the HCCC librarians and connecting with our HCCC community in meaningful ways.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy to promote library services, resources, programs, and events.
  • Create visually appealing and engaging content, including graphics, videos, and written posts, tailored to the interests and needs of the HCCC student community.
  • Manage all library social media accounts, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
  • Monitor social media channels, respond to inquiries, comments, and messages in a timely and professional manner, and maintain a positive and appropriate online presence.
  • Collaborate with library and other HCCC staff to gather information about upcoming events, initiatives, and noteworthy resources to feature on social media platforms.
  • Analyze social media metrics and trends to evaluate the effectiveness of content and campaigns, making data-driven recommendations for optimization.
  • Assist with additional tasks and projects as assigned by the Dean of College Libraries.




Required / Minimum Qualifications 

  • Minimum of a High School diploma.
  • Demonstrated experience managing social media accounts for an organization, preferably in an educational or library setting.
  • Proficiency in social media management tools such as Hootsuite, Buffer, or Sprout Social.
  • Proficiency in video editing software for social media such as Adobe Premiere Rush, CapCut, InShot, or VivaVideo.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Creative mindset with the ability to develop engaging content across various formats.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines. 

Preferred qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, or related field.
  • Experience with graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
  • Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) for website updates.
  • Knowledge of social media advertising and analytics tools, such as Facebook Ads Manager and Google Analytics.
  • Understanding of SEO principles and strategies for optimizing social media content.
