POSITION: International Student Advisor- PROFESSIONAL SERVICES SPECIALIST 4

LOCATION: INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ADVISEMENT

JOB SUMMARY: The International Student Advisor will serve as DSO and support the work of the Director, processing SEVIS documents for new and continuing International Students and Exchange Visitors, advising them in matters related to maintaining their status, and implementing programs and services to support their success at New Jersey City University.

DUTIES: Under supervision of the Director, serves as Designated School Official (DSO) for F1 students and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the University’s exchange programs.

  1. Process immigration and visa documents for new and continuing International Students and Exchange Visitors, including forms I20 and DS2019, employment and reinstatement applications, and other transactions.
  2. Supports exchange partnerships and serves as a contact for global partners.
  3. Supports delivery of services by university offices and departments, including the Registrar, Bursar, Health Center, and Residence Life, to ensure success.
  4. Participates in orientations for new International Students and Exchange Visitors to ensure compliance with immigration regulations regarding academic progress, employment, and maintaining non-immigration status.
  5. Develops and supports programming, activities, workshops, and services for International Students and Exchange Visitors.
  6. Contributes to the development of marketing materials and web-based information for International Students and Exchange Visitors.
  7. Other duties as assigned.


EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of (1) year of direct experience with SEVIS and International Student Services. Three (3) to Five (5) years preferred.

KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

  1. Knowledge of SEVIS operations, regulations and reporting requirements as evidenced by experience as a DSO.
  2. Ability to communicate with a diverse student population, especially International Students, good listening, assessment, and problem-solving skills.
  3. Strong preference for a candidate who has lived, studied, or worked abroad.


· Must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. legal permanent resident as mandated by federal regulations.
