The University of California Office of the President (UCOP) is the system-wide headquarters of the University, managing its fiscal and business operations and furthering its public interest, academic, and research missions. It supports campuses and students through system-wide funding and programs; manages the University’s multi-billion-dollar operations and investments; oversees medical centers and national labs; provides centralized labor relations and legal services; and promotes the well-being of its diverse and large workforce through benefits and retirement programs.

The UCOP Human Resources Department is dedicated to providing exemplary and supportive client service to UCOP’s 2,200+ staff in support of teaching, research, and the public service mission of UC. The Department works collaboratively across all UCOP departments to attract, develop, and support the retention of the best-qualified people. The next CHRO, UCOP Human Resources will combine strategic excellence with exemplary management ability. Reporting to the Executive Director, UCOP Operations, the CHRO will work with UCOP senior executives and leaders and inspire a team of 35 HR professionals to deliver outstanding, progressive, efficient, and compliant HR services, programs, systems, and metrics in service of the UC mission.

With significant HR leadership experience earned in a large, complex environment, ideally a public university, the next CHRO, UCOP Human Resources will be a strategic leader who fosters an efficient, effective, and service-oriented team culture. The CHRO will lead strategic, operational, and hands-on efforts to evaluate, assess, and improve all UCOP-wide HR practices, programs, systems, policies, and procedures. This strategic leader will ideally be familiar with Lean Six Sigma or Agile processes and understand how Artificial Intelligence can support the delivery of strategic HR services. This is an opportunity to serve as a key advisor, partner, and counselor for senior UCOP executives, leaders, and managers on complex HR matters, and develop effective and efficient solutions for the central office of a renowned institution with a vital mission.
