Position Summary

This Public Service faculty position is primarily responsible for the development and coordination of curriculum, lessons, materials, and resources to reach students through 4-H programming. This includes coordinating content with other specialists as well as providing departmental expertise in positive youth development programming and pedagogy. This role also supports related staff development, partnership development, and alignment of existing programming with state curriculum standards.

A valid driver’s license and a vehicle for official duty travel are required. The position includes frequent work on evenings and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications: Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline closely related to youth/human development or education.

Additional Requirements

Achievement of the rank of Public Service Assistant (or equivalent) or have a documented record of achievement that qualifies the candidate for placement in the public service faculty track. Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification

Three or more years of experience working in the field of positive youth development/education with an understanding of positive youth development theory and frameworks.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Demonstrated expertise in education, youth development, Extension, or related area.
  • Appreciation and understanding of Extension and 4-H programs are preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in program development and evaluation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Manage multiple programs in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and public relations skills are required, with the ability to work with various colleagues and audiences.
  • Work independently and in teams.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
Physical Demands
  • Walking long distances or standing for extended periods of time for 4-H events
  • Loading vehicles for 4-H events which includes lifting, carrying, reaching, pushing, and pulling heavy items/boxes up to 40 lbs.
  • Working outdoors for some events

Provides vision, direction, coordination, and overall leadership to curricula, lessons, materials, and resources to reach students through 4-H programming Ensures that curricula and resources are in alignment with positive youth development principles and practices and Georgia Department of Education Standards.

Provides expertise in positive youth development programming and pedagogy. Utilizes expertise to guide program development (needs assessment, program implementation, and evaluation) for curricula and resources. Designs, and implements training to educate staff and volunteers in the research base, frameworks, and practice of positive youth development.

Stewards partnerships that effect development and implementation of 4-H programming to include UGA faculty, state and federal agencies, land grant universities, volunteers, private partners, and other organizations.
