REPORTS TO: Director, Early Learning Center

OVERVIEW: This position supports the Preschool Expansion Aid Grant Program, which is a partnership between Middlesex College and The Public Schools of Edison Township.


  1. Utilizes the High Scope Curriculum and evaluates student progress within the class.
  2. Develops, researches, implements, and evaluates weekly and daily lesson plans that align with NJ Preschool Learning Standards.
  3. Coordinates work assignments of staff in the preschool classroom.
  4. Assigns specific tasks to teacher assistants, substitute workers, students, and volunteers as required.
  5. Maintains records for Edison Preschool evaluation.
  6. Plans and conducts parent conferences at least two times per year and prepares for them in written form; as per Edison BOE protocol.
  7. Teaches children and supervises them in the classroom, playground, and on field trips.
  8. Promotes Family Engagement.
  9. Attends all required District Professional Development.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's degree in Education
  • Certificate of Eligibility or Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing for Preschool through Grade Three certification
  • Three (3) years of verifiable work experience in an early childhood setting private or public
  • Experience utilizing High Scope Early Childhood Curriculum
  • NJ Preschool through Grade 3 Certification

Ten (10)-month position

Duration: Employment contingent upon Pre School Expansion contract with Edison BOE.

The schedule listed below, and any paid time off will be in accordance with the Edison BOE calendar and contracts.

SCHEDULE : Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. in accordance with the provisions of Edison BOE

RETIREMENT: Pension Eligible

This is a specially funded position, dependent for its existence upon federal, State, or other non-College operating funds, and is not funded pursuant to the regular College budget. Continued employment is always contingent upon satisfactory performance and College needs. Grant funded positions are also contingent upon continued funding. This appointment is for the specified period only. Employment beyond the expiration date of the grant is subject to appropriate provisions of existing collectively bargained agreements in effect at the time for employees covered by those agreements.

Any Middlesex College employee hired after September 1, 2011 will have to meet the New Jersey residency law requirement.
