DESCRIPTION

The Department of Egyptology and Assyriology at Brown University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor of Egyptology with an expected start date of 1 July 2022.  The successful candidate will be expected to produce original scholarship on ancient Egyptian texts with specialization in any area, genre, or language phase.  The successful candidate will also be responsible for teaching and advising at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and all faculty are expected to participate in service to the Department and University.  Preference will be given to candidates who have the following qualifications: proven ability to teach Middle Egyptian plus at least one other phase of the language; experience or potential as a dynamic teacher in other areas, such as ancient Egyptian history, literature, religion, or science; innovative ideas for attracting students and building the undergraduate program.  The Department’s faculty and students work in the fields of Egyptology, Assyriology, and History of Exact Science in Antiquity, and candidates should be open to intellectual engagement across disciplinary lines both within the Department and in the ancient studies community at Brown.  The Department is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching, and/or service, to the excellence of the academic community by advancing the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates should have a doctorate or equivalent degree in Egyptology or related discipline by the time the appointment begins (no later than 30 June 2022) and a record of publication appropriate to their career stage.
