Duties and Responsibilities:
The Enrollment Management Department is accepting applications for the Student Financial Counselor position. The qualified candidate selected for this position will work closely with students to outline a plan for paying for school, including personal finances, student loans, government grants, private scholarships, university scholarships and university payment plans.
- The Student Financial Counselor assists students in navigating the financial aid process by helping students to understand and complete the correct forms, providing guidance for the student to obtain the needed documents and apprising them of any changes to existing resources.
- In addition to supporting the student in the financial aid process, the Student Financial Counselor informs the students on loan repayment procedures and help students to develop a budget to keep student debt to a minimum as they persist toward degree completion.
- This position works closely with the Office of Financial Aid, Office of Student Accounts, and the Scholarships Office to ensure that the proper information is provided to the students.
- Conduct workshops for both prospective and current students on having a plan for paying for college.
- Assist the Scholarships Office with answering questions regarding scholarships awarded and available scholarships, as well as mailing out institutional scholarship letters.
- Maintain equipment, office files, and student records; answer telephone and provide assistance to callers; and provide assistance to students/visitors.
- Working knowledge of student systems as related to admissions (preferably BANNER ), databases, and Microsoft products.
- Knowledge Federal Financial Aid policies.
- Knowledge of counseling and working with students.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations.
- Skill in making written and oral presentations.
- Interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage details.
A Bachelor’s Degree is required.
The successful candidate must possess strong technical skills, a highly service-oriented focus, and strong communication skills to include written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
