The Department of Africana Studies at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) invites applications for the position of one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Psychological Science with a focus in African-centered or Black Psychology beginning August 2024. We are especially interested in candidates with a PhD in Psychological Science (area open), who integrate African-centered or Black Psychology in their teaching, research, and service; and a community-based participatory approach with African American or African diasporic communities. Preference will be given to candidates with PhD or advanced ABD by the date of hire; and have taught courses at university level as an instructor of record or TA. Applicants whose scholarship covers any of these sample areas of culture, mental health disparities education, positive youth development, family science, racial identity, racial stress and/or trauma, diversity science, and intergroup relations; and who have an orientation toward multi-disciplinary, interdisciplinary and/or collaborative research and experience with a commitment to creating accessible student-centered and active learning environments are encouraged to apply. The position is fully located in the Africana Studies Department, with the possibility of teaching courses cross-listed with the Psychology Department and School of Social Work.
