Admissions Representative, Military and Public Safety


The Admissions Representative | Military & Public Safety (ARM PS) will Identify, engage, recruit, and enroll qualified students who are aligned with the military and or public safety entities, including but not limited to law enforcement, fire service, emergency medical, and first responders for Northwood University’s graduate and professional studies division. The Admissions ARM PS will support high school graduates, college transfer students and undergraduates with military and or public safety backgrounds for Northwood University’s non-traditional, and graduate programs from prospect to enrollment at Northwood University. The ARM PS will work in conjunction with the Director of Enrollment | Military and Public Safety to establish strategic recruitment targets, activities and initiatives that will drive enrollment in service to military personnel and public safety representatives,.

The ARM PS will participate in recruiting actions by attending promotional events and maintaining liaison with military installations and public safety and policing institutions at the local, state, and national levels, as well as affiliated organizations for this specific target market. Additionally, they will provide support for this line of business with a dedicated market segment enrollment team. Finally, they will provide feedback and support for improving and enhancing the recruitment and retention of students from the military, government, and public safety market segments.

  • Achieve new student enrollment objectives for Northwood University in the assigned military, government, and public safety market channel through given enrollment activity as established by the Vice President of Graduate Enrollment and Professional Studies. These activities include but are not limited to:
    • In conjunction with VP Graduate Enrollment and Professional Studies, develop, implement, and continually assess comprehensive strategic enrollment plan for the Military, and Public Safety enrollment channel
    • Develop and maintain consistent referral generation activities
    • Responsible for serving students via face-to-face and virtual recruitment/retention outreach on military installations, public safety and policing organizations, as well as government offices and affiliated associations
    • Attend college day/night programs
    • Participate in on and off-campus events
    • Create and host events for targeted audiences
    • Interview prospective students and families
    • Develop rapport and maintain working relationships with appropriate representatives, professional organizations, and related professionals and groups in the military, government, and public safety arena.
    • Develop presentation materials for the targeted audiences and deliver effective presentations
    • Actively participate in assisting students from initial inquiry to NU enrollment (manage enrollment pipeline)
    • Act as a secondary Certifying Official for Michigan and online programming (take the necessary steps to become certified)
  • Provide segment strategic collaboration by collaborating with other responsible roles to set strategy and define leading activities to promote growth in enrollment among military and government employee audiences
  • Maintain clear communication with the manager on all enrollment functions/activities
  • Provide weekly activity, and progress reports to the manager
  • Provide daily maintenance of the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system
  • Evaluate transcripts, military records, and professional training, if applicable
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Business, Marketing or a related area
  • Current or previous military or government work experience
  • Previous related recruitment or sales experience preferred
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Valid driver's license at the time of hire and maintain a valid driver's license while employed and meet NU insurability standards
  • Demonstrated experience working in teams and the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks with minimal supervision
  • Ability to travel (intrastate, interstate, regional, and/or international where appropriate)
  • Willingness and ability to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse populations
  • Advanced working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Working knowledge of relational databases (CRM system)

Minimum Education and Experience

Level I :
Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Business, Marketing or related area. Previous related experience preferred.

Level II :
Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Business, Marketing or related area. Combination of 2 years directly related experience at Northwood University or prior to NU.

Level III :
Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Business, Marketing or related area. Combination of 4 years directly related experience at Northwood University or prior to NU, including at least 1 year as Admissions Representative at NU.

  • Report directly to their director to achieve or exceed defined recruitment and engagement activities within their respective target audience (i.e. Military and Public Safety)
  • Support the entire Admissions team with overall department responsibilities as needed
  • Assure that all required reports and documents are submitted accurately and on time
  • Attend campus admissions department training sessions and activities
  • Prepare and submit expense reports in a timely and accurate manner
