Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or other degree closely related to the area of assignment with twelve credit hours of accounting coursework; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Proficient in business applications such as Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.

Strong organization skills are required to effectively manage moderately complex tax programs and a significant number of deadlines.

License/Certification Required

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The primary duty of this position is to remit taxes to federal and state agencies and file various tax returns based on established deadlines. This position will also reconcile the financial data related to these taxes to ensure all tax liabilities and refunds are properly accounted in the ERP system. The details of the essential duties are as follows.

Payroll Tax
  • Reconcile and remit payroll federal and state withholdings to the IRS and state agencies for the states where the University is registered and file the necessary federal and state payroll tax returns
  • Reconcile and remit unemployment tax to the states where the University is registered and file the required unemployment tax filings
  • Coordinate with Payroll and ensure the W-2s are reconciled and filed on time
  • Assist the supervisor with withholding tax and unemployment tax registration in other states as needed

Fringe benefits
  • Review taxable reimbursements and fringe benefits to ensure the proper tax reporting and withholding. Some examples are:
    • Gifts, prizes and awards,
    • Courtesy cars, and
    • Moving and relocations.

Sales and Use Tax
  • Reconcile, file and remit sales and use tax on a monthly basis (due on 20th of each month)
  • Prepare and file Form E-585E, State Agency Claim for Refund County and Transit Sales and Use Taxes on a quarterly basis

Other Duties
  • Reconcile the liabilities and tax refund receivable accounts for payroll and sales tax
  • Document the business processes pertaining to this position’s duties and participate in cross-training to ensure business continuity
  • Assist the supervisor with unrelated business income tax return preparation and tax exempt bond post issuance compliance program
  • Other duties as assigned
Suggested Salary Range
$62,100 - $64,007
