Systems and Discovery Librarian

JOB DESCRIPTION br>RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administers all Library services accessed online.
  • Manages the life cycle of Library electronic resources, including maintaining relationships with vendors, setting up trials, and generating statistical data on Library database usage to drive decisions regarding updates to existing services and the purchase of new ones.
  • Administers the library services platform (FOLIO) and makes changes to values, parameters, and system preferences, including circulation rules and patron uploads.
  • Manages and supports the Library’s Discovery layer (EBSCO Discovery Service – EDS), link resolver (EBSCO Full-Text Finder), and single-sign-on authentication system (OpenAthens). Manages database packages and access configurations, and works with vendors to troubleshoot and resolve discovery and access issues.
  • Develops and maintains the Proctor Library’s website (Springshare LibGuides), including links for database access, calendar hours and schedule, and news regarding new services. Conducts regular usability testing of Library web services to improve user-centered functionality.
  • Administers all library user surveys and participates in Library assessment projects.
  • Collaborates with Institutional Technology to facilitate access to Library digital resources.
  • Collaborates with other staff members to improve functionality of online Library services.
  • Stays informed about current best practices in library website design and technologies. Researches developing trends and predictions about future innovations in user-centered web design.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Participates in collection development for both print and electronic resources, recommends additions and deletions, and evaluates new products.
  • Assists with the Library’s Circulation department as needed.
  • Performs other duties as may be required by the Director of Library Services.
  • Always presents a professional and friendly demeanor and physical appearance.
  • Cultivates professional relationships with library colleagues, fellow staff, faculty, and students.
  • Provides research and informational service both online and at the Reference desk a minimum of 12 hours per week, including one night shift.
  • Provides general and course-related library research instruction to students and faculty across the academic disciplines at Flagler College.
  • Collaborates closely with one or more academic departments to serve as a library liaison and to provide research instruction to students and faculty.
  • Participates in field-related academic discourse by attending conferences and workshops on user experience, e-resources, discovery, and technology

QUALIFICATIONS

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master of Information Studies or Library and Information Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Proficiency with Springshare product suite
  • Working knowledge of library technology standards and best practices
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 2 years of experience working with library technology systems
  • Experience using Springshare products, including LibGuides, LibCal, LibAnswers, etc.
  • Familiarity with EBSCO Folio
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Perl) or web development tools (e.g., HTML, CSS)
