Director of University Events

Position Information

This position leads the effort for, and partners with colleagues who are responsible for

many of St. Thomas University’s signature events, overseeing event management and

production of events including but not limited to Commencement ceremonies, galas,

regional alumni gatherings, public figure and dignitary visits, high-profile lectures,

concerts, and select events sponsored by the Office of the President. Serves as the

campus resource for developing and maintaining campus protocols for all aspects of

events. This role also interfaces significantly with the Department of Athletics in the

production of camps, clinics and other community engagement opportunities. The

director works in close collaboration with partners throughout the university, most

notably the offices of Philanthropy, Academic Affairs and the President, to deliver high quality experiences that grow affinity, align with the STU brand, and expand support and

engagement.

Please note: campus presence is required as this is a full-time position, not a contract or

event-based role.

Requirements

Educational Requirements

Bachelors' degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training required.

Experience Requirements

  • 5-7 years of related experience required.
  • Previous supervisory/managerial experience in a fast-paced environment

preferred.

Minimum Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of leadership principles, policies, concepts and best practices

and the ability to form trusted relationships with colleagues in support of your

work.

  • Strong knowledge of all aspects of event management and production and public

relations.

  • Strong knowledge of program management, including comprehensive staff and

budget administration.

  • Strong interpersonal communications skills to build and foster a collaborative and

cooperative work environment and build to maintain good working relationships

with all organizational levels and outside constituencies.

  • Strong political acumen and skill in judgment, decision-making and problem

recognition, avoidance and resolution.

  • Strong leadership / management skills, including skills to lead, direct, mentor and

evaluate both operations and people.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle complex tasks and projects,

often simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of the campus, its vision, mission, goals, programs, policies

and infrastructure.

  • Prior supervisory experience
