This position leads and supports complex process improvement initiatives, applying data-supported approaches and expertise in business processes and improvement methodologies. This position leads transformative change, optimizes operational support, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and fosters innovation to enhancing division success.

The Division of Student Affairs consists of 30 departments that provide student support and services dedicated to helping students become successful, curious, competent individuals during their time at CU Boulder.

The work in Student Affairs supports all factors of the student experience, no matter what department a staff member may work in. This includes where students live, eat, make friends, build professional skills and find help if they need it. Many departments provide involvement opportunities, educational resources and support services to help students find their community and build lifelong skills. Student Affairs also has shared services departments that support the work and staff of our student-facing areas, including areas like assessment, business services, financial planning, human resources, marketing communications and information technology (IT).

With over 800 staff members in the Division of Student Affairs, our diverse team is uniquely positioned to personalize the student experience and advocate for students, enhancing their success inside and outside the classroom.

Student Affairs Business Services is a shared service of the Division of Student Affairs that provides financial and operational support services, guidance and resources in the areas of procurement and travel. Team members support departments in procuring and expensing goods and services; arranging and advising group and individual travel; and substantiating all expenses. Business Services assists in interpreting and implementing state and university financial policies and procedures while serving as liaisons to CU system and campus partners. The team incorporates and aligns processes with campus and system guidelines while advocating on behalf of the unique needs and operations of the division.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Process Evaluation
  • Lead the assessment and analysis of current business processes to identify areas for improvement and optimization.
  • Engage in development and customer value analysis of proposed projects, and guide solution development.
  • Lead diagnosis of workflow impediments and inefficiencies throughout the division, facilitating root cause analysis.
  • Conduct detailed analysis of difficulties and redundancies in business operations and systems.
  • Assess quality service delivery and policy compliance.
  • Identify areas for improved controls to promote workflow efficiencies, cost savings, and process simplification.
Process Assessment and Planning
  • Strategize and facilitate the development of process improvements to achieve change in operations and customer service standards.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive process improvement strategies and initiatives to enhance efficiency, productivity, quality, and customer service using industry standard process improvement methodologies (Lean or Six Sigma, Kaizen).
  • Establish key performance indicators and metrics to measure process performance and monitor the effectiveness of improvement efforts.
  • Design and document new processes, workflows, tools, and procedures, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Develop and iterate standard operating procedures (SOPs) and business process mapping for current state and future workflows.
  • Identify organizational change needs followed by the design and delivery of effective solutions to ensure user engagement, readiness, and adoption.
  • Lead business process modeling and design sessions, documenting functional requirements and ensuring policy compliance.
  • Assess and document impact analysis (including financial, operational, and cultural impacts) resulting from operational improvement efforts.
  • Lead and support complex process improvement/innovation initiatives spanning multiple collaborator groups.
  • Implement process improvement projects, measurably improving business processes, operational effectiveness, and customer service, ultimately contributing to the overall success of the division.
  • Facilitate discussions and build consensus on implementing recommendations within a highly complex environment.
  • Collaborate with project management teams to achieve future state goals and objectives.
  • Communicate compelling and concise analysis to division leadership to make well-informed decisions regarding problem resolution and opportunity realization.
  • Develop plans, facilitate training sessions, and create resources across multiple mediums on new or revised processes, ensuring seamless implementation.
Special Assignments
  • Manage special assignments ensuring that outcome goals are met.
  • Serves on division and campus committees and task forces as needed.

This position is assigned a hybrid work modality working on the CU Boulder campus and remotely.

  • The salary for this position is $76,500 annually. Onboarding assistance is available within Student Affairs division guidelines.

What We Require
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the degree on a year for year basis.
  • 3-years of experience in business process improvement within higher education or a similarly complex organizational environment.

What We Would Like You to Have
  • Master’s degree in business administration, management, information technology or related field.
  • Certification in relevant process improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen.
  • Experience facilitating discussions across partner groups, and driving consensus in complex environments.
  • Experience developing and implementing policies and procedures, and improving business processes.
  • Experience training others on new skills and procedures including the creation of resources and tools.
