Department Summary
Early Childhood CARES provides Early Intervention (EI) and Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) services to infants, toddlers and preschool children in Lane County with developmental delays and disabilities.

Early Childhood CARES services include parent consultation, parent-toddler groups, specialized preschools, community preschool consultation, speech and language therapy, physical therapy and occupational therapy.

Early Childhood CARES is funded by the Oregon Department of Education with state and federal funds and is one of nine programs delivering EI/ECSE services across the state.

Position Summary
The Parent Outreach Coordinator is responsible for public relations efforts to promote public awareness of the Early Childhood CARES program. Actively manages Child Find activities to locate and identify children who may need early intervention or special education services. Position manages social media marketing and creates communication content for print, digital and other media to educate the public on Early Childhood CARES services. The Parent Outreach Coordinator plans and organizes trainings, meetings, special events and produces a monthly newsletter for parents and families. This position provides community resource information and assists individuals with accessing those resources. Position also researches and identifies potential grant and fund-raising opportunities.
The ability to work independently, handle responsibility and take a project to completion is essential. Works evenings and weekends as needed.
This position is supervised by Early Childhood CARES Co-Directors.

Minimum Requirements
  • Three years experience in gathering information, writing/producing materials, presenting information to the public and public relations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communication or related field may substitute for up to two years of general experience.

    Professional Competencies
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to clearly communicate information to various audiences.
  • Excellent attention to detail and content editing skills.
  • Ability to set priorities, take initiative and independently manage multiple tasks to completion.

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with special education programs.
  • Development and understanding of website content.
  • Experience using social media for marketing and informational purposes.
  • Experience in planning and organizing group events.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
