This pivotal role is integral to propelling Northwestern’s thriving research portfolio, which is supported by more than $1 billion in annual sponsored funding. As a key player in our research ecosystem, you will lead the charge in managing all facets of pre-award and non-financial post-award grants and contracts management, embodying Northwestern’s spirit of exemplary customer engagement.

Your Impact:

  • Strategy: Spearhead the strategic oversight and administrative support across Northwestern’s extensive research portfolio. Your leadership will influence nearly 170 school- and college-based research centers and 35 University-wide centers and institutes, marking a significant contribution to our tradition of interdisciplinary excellence.
  • Policy: Develop and implement cutting-edge policies that enhance our research capabilities, ensuring Northwestern remains at the forefront of global research initiatives.
  • Collaboration: Forge exemplary working relationships across the research administration, enhancing our collaborative culture that engages faculty, students, and staff in groundbreaking research endeavors.
  • Innovation and Compliance: With a keen eye for innovation and a commitment to compliance, you will guide our research community through the complexities of sponsored research, fostering an environment where outstanding service and compliance coexist harmoniously.

Your Team: Lead a dedicated team of five direct reports, overseeing a sponsored research staff of 68 FTE. With an annual budget of $7.9 million, you will have the resources and support to achieve ambitious research goals.

Who We Are Looking For: We seek a seasoned research administration professional with a successful track record in a large, complex, research-intensive university, preferably with a medical school or an academic medical center. The ideal candidate will possess:
