Job Description Summary
Responsible for the study coordination of investigator-initiated studies, multi-center research studies, and patient-oriented clinical and translational research projects within the Renal, Electrolyte, and Hypertension Division. Works directly with study physicians, research nurses, and other research staff at Penn and at other sites. Recruits and performs study visits, enters data, resolves queries. Help advance the research mission of the Division and University. Show vigilance in patient safety, protocol compliance, and data quality. Adhere to all University of Pennsylvania, IRB, and FDA guidelines. May require working off site and flexible hours. Candidate will be responsible for drafting IRB protocols; patient chart review; recruiting study participants; obtaining informed consent; scheduling and conducting study procedures; maintaining study records and participating in data collection; manage inquiries related to the research studies including billing; maintain daily log of research activity; follow strict study protocol and correspond regularly with the IRB.

Job Responsibilities

The Division of Renal-Electrolyte and Hypertension at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) is seeking a full-time Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC). This position, with an anticipated start date in Fall 2021, is based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and will be working with Dr. Christina Brotman.

The CRC will be involved with hospital-based research related to using advanced monitoring technology to better understand the short-term impacts of hemodialysis on patients who have kidney disease requiring inpatient hemodialysis treatment. The CRC will be responsible for coordinating, implementing, and completing research functions associated with studies in the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Essential duties include recruiting study participants, drafting IRB protocols, obtaining informed consent, coordination of timing with hospital providers, interacting with patients and legal representatives related to research projects, scheduling and conducting study procedures, collecting and recording study data, and maintaining study records and participating in data collection.



We are looking for a highly motivated, dedicated and enthusiastic individual who will provide study coordination for patient-oriented clinical and translation research projects within the Division of Nephrology with a particular focus on observational prospective studies and clinical trials for new methods to improve the delivery and monitoring of hemodialysis in the hospital. The primary duties will include, but are not limited to:

* Prepare and process Institutional Review Board (IRB) documentation including submissions, continuing reviews, amendments, and adverse event reporting.

* Prepare, process, and organize all regulatory documentation.

* Coordinate, organize and maintain all documentation required by sponsor or clinical research organizations (CROs) - source documentation, case report forms, study and regulatory binders, and patient binders.

* Resolve regulatory-related queries with IRB, study sponsors and CROs.

* Work with research sponsors, CROs, or regulatory agencies on study initiation, monitoring, closeout visits, and any audits.

* Research data entry.

* Recruit, screen, and enroll patients as specified per protocol.

* Schedule patient visits and necessary testing.

* Process and ship blood, urine, and serum specimens.

* Obtain records and any other material required to complete case report forms and comply with protocols.

  • Bachelor of Science and 1 to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Must be able to coordinate and establish priorities among diverse tasks (required).
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills (required).
  • Be able to effectively use Microsoft computer software and REDCap (preferred).
  • Knowledge of IRB and human research protection regulations (preferred).
  • Must have reliable transportation to Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (required).
