Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Reporting to the assistant library director, this position is responsible for assisting in reference or the children's library with programs and daily operations. Provides reference service at the reference desks under the supervision of reference librarians.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provides reference assistance to library users using print and non-print materials
  2. Assist library users with the Online catalog, electronic databases, and other Online systems
  3. Provides library users with directional information in locating materials
  4. Answers the phone, chat, and text reference questions and refers users to appropriate resources
  5. Assists users with equipment usage and computer software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher
  6. Assists in library programming such as computer workshops, story times, crafts, book clubs, and seminars
  7. Assists users in location digital media in the digital media catalog and helps users to download eBooks and audio books to mobile devices
  8. Maintains photocopier and printers in reference area
  9. Assists users in checking out materials from the library
  10. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items, such as typewriters and record boxes. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as above average agility and dexterity.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
  • Work schedule will include some nights and weekends
  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office/library environment with minimal exposure to safety hazards
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or GED and at least 5 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Salary

Hourly Pay Rate is $15.24.
