Clinical Science Program in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences

The Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences at the University of Delaware invites applications for a tenure-track, open rank position in the Clinical Science area to begin September 1, 2024.

The overarching goal of the Clinical Science Program is to train doctoral clinical researchers who produce, apply, and disseminate scientific knowledge, and thus we seek a research scholar with a commitment to this clinical science mission. This position will complement the program’s existing strengths in developmental risk, psychopathology, and intervention science. We are open to research expertise in any area within clinical science broadly defined, although we would be particularly interested in those who focus on developmental processes, which is a strength across areas of the department. The Clinical Science Program was established in 1968 and has been continuously accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) since 1975 and was one of the first programs accredited by the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS) in 2011. We have just been reaccredited by PCSAS for another 10 years and are currently being reviewed for reaccreditation by APA.

The ideal applicant would have a strong record of programmatic interdisciplinary research and external funding (or the strong potential to secure funding). Preference will be given to applicants at the rank of Associate or Full Professor who would be interested in a leadership position as the Director of Clinical Training (DCT). However, applicants interested in an Assistant Professor position are also invited to apply. This is an outstanding opportunity for a scholar to join and strengthen the Clinical Science Program in a department with additional programs in Behavioral Neuroscience, Cognitive Psychology, and Social Psychology and an innovative core of interdisciplinary researchers utilizing cutting-edge methodologies.

QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Applicants for this position must have earned a Ph.D. from an APA- or PCSAS-accredited clinical psychology program and have a strong commitment to clinical science and training in evidence-based practice, as well as to diversity, equity, and inclusion in research, clinical training, and teaching. The successful candidate will have a history of high-level publications in clinical psychology or related fields, conduct fundable research, and show leadership potential. We are particularly interested in applicants with demonstrated leadership skills and interest in leading the Clinical Science area as the Director of Clinical Training. The DCT supports all aspects of clinical training, manages program accreditation, coordinates externship experiences, and works closely with the director of our in-house community-based training clinic.

PSYCHOLOGICAL AND BRAIN SCIENCES AT UD: The Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Delaware resides within the College of Arts and Sciences. The Department is home to roughly 1,200 undergraduate majors and 400 minors and offers degrees in both Psychology and Neuroscience. The department is organized around four concentrations of research and graduate training that are highly collaborative and interdisciplinary. Our graduate students and full-time faculty conduct basic and applied research in clinical science, behavioral neuroscience, cognitive psychology, and social psychology. We promote the principles of equity and inclusion within our department and beyond through recruitment and retention, graduate training, clinical work, research, service and teaching, as well as through open and productive dialogue.

The Department is an innovative hub for psychological science and includes active researchers studying a range of psychological phenomena relevant to clinical science. This research includes studies of the basic neural mechanisms of behavior at our state-of-the-science fMRI center, genetic and epigenetic mechanisms, and social/physiological processes relevant to well-being. Our Psychological Services Training Center (PSTC) and the Center for Training, Evaluation, and Community Collaboration (C-TECC) will coordinate with other Health Clinics at the UD Science, Technology and Advanced Research (STAR) Campus, a health sciences complex that includes labs for human-based studies and active outpatient clinics. The Early Learning Center at UD is a daycare and preschool that supports the academic and research programs of the University and is a site for student observation and practicum, as well as faculty and graduate student research. The Delaware Health Sciences Alliance (DHSA), a partnership among the University of Delaware, Christiana Care Health System, Nemours/Alfred I. du Pont Hospital for Children, and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, provides infrastructure and opportunity for innovative clinical and translational collaborations.
