Position Summary:
The Accounting Manager helps manage an accounting office of 8 employees, including primary supervision of Accounts Payable and accountants. Duties include performing grants accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, maintaining strong internal controls, and other similar duties.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervise Accounts Payable and Accounting staff and manage related systems and business processes.
  • Manage record retention for the accounting office.
  • Perform all accounting, reconciliation, and reporting related to private and government grants. This includes working with external auditors on matters related to the Uniform Guidance audit.
  • Serve as the University's primary resource for grant compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate signature authority and g/l account security, manage records, and work with staff to ensure signature authority compliance.
  • Assist in the recruiting and supervision of student workers.
  • Import files to the general ledger, including journal entries and various system import files.
  • Perform internal auditing procedures including review of procurement card statements, monitoring for duplicate transactions, and auditing transaction approvals.
  • Work with controller to prepare for annual financial statement audit.
  • Maintain strong internal controls in all areas of responsibility and consider opportunities to strengthen controls throughout the University's accounting functions.
  • Manage contracts archive for the accounting office.
  • Manage and reconcile the Student Loan program. Work on assigning portfolio to the Department of Education.
  • Reconcile payroll liability accounts on a monthly basis
  • Perform various monthly accounting duties including reconciling balance sheet accounts and preparing journal entries.
  • Assist controller in maintaining the chart of accounts.
  • Teach security authority delegation class on monthly basis.
  • Complete and/or delegate & manage special projects as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in accounting or related field.
  • 3 years experience in financial accounting and accounting office administration.
  • Strong proficiency with administrative/financial systems, Microsoft Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and other productivity tools.
  • Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and balance competing priorities.
  • Capacity to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong proficiency with technology with desire to seek out ways to use technology more effectively in performance of job duties.
  • Ability to exert leadership in the implementation of new systems and improved business processes.
  • Ability to work independently with a minimum degree of supervision.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Additional years of relevant experience
  • Experience working with government regulations related to grants and contracts
  • Experience supervising an accounting office
  • Experience working in public accounting or higher education
  • CPA license or other relevant professional licenses

Salary: $80,000 - $90,000
