About the Opportunity:
The Roux Institute is driving economic development in the state of Maine through Research, Learning, Entrepreneurship, and Partnerships. The entrepreneurship team is focused on developing the entrepreneurial mindset in all the communities we support as well as attracting and supporting high growth startups to Maine.
Our portfolio of programs in service of that mission; and the Associate Director of Entrepreneurship Ecosystem is responsible for designing and executing that new and growing a portfolio of programs. Reporting to the Director of Entrepreneurship, this team member will be a thought partner and leader developing strategies to support the growth of the entrepreneurial mindset. They will have the autonomy and responsibility to design, build, and sustain the programs in support of the strategies they develop.
Responsibilities:
The Associate Director of Entrepreneurship Ecosystem's portfolio will evolve over the coming years and the ability to discover and then realize new opportunities is essential. The ideal candidate for this role is an experienced connector, community-builder, and operator embedded within Greater Portland's entrepreneurial ecosystem. This person would be responsible for connecting corporate leaders, founders, and talent within the Roux and leading community outreach beyond it. The position will build upon existing work by introducing new initiatives to develop the ecosystem and increase the Roux Institute's net impact.
At its core, the Associate Director of Entrepreneurship Ecosystem role is about program design and execution. This position will work collaboratively internally and externally to the University to create these programs, serving students, researchers, corporate partners, and community members interested in starting businesses in Maine.
Develop and manage Entrepreneurship Programming.
- Grow current programming including our Entrepreneurship Summer
Immersion Program, Speaker Series, and other Events.
- Create new programs that inspire entrepreneurship among the
communities we support in a scalable and sustainable way.
Design frameworks to measure and report on ROI of community engagements. - Develop community building strategies that map to shared
business objectives.
- Ensure that the Roux Institute focuses on diversifying the tech
ecosystem and supporting diverse communities in the process.
Attract new talent to the region. - Identify leaders, founders, and leadership team members that
are leaving a lasting impact on the region and find ways to engage
them with the community.
- Plan and produce events and opportunities to expand community
and establish connections between partners, founders, investors,
mentors, students, and more.
- Report on the strength of domain-specific communities according
to the Roux Institute's research and learning areas (e.g.,
experiential AI, life sciences and medicine, data visualization,
etc.).
Develop the Roux Institute's Entrepreneurship network. - Leverage technology to make it simple for the community to
figure out who's who within the burgeoning talent ecosystem and
connect with Roux Institute portfolio companies.
- Experiment with talent development programs and partnerships
(such as domain-specific mentorship programs and apprenticeships)
and iterate on those programs based on data.
- Develop scalable network for engaging individual and
institutional investors.
Qualifications: - 7+ years of experience in community management, marketing,
business operations, and partnerships.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strategic, organized, and able to deliver
independently
- Committed to the Roux Institute's mission; passionate about
creating a stronger, more competitive, and more diverse tech and
talent ecosystem in Portland and the State of Maine.
- Entrepreneurial Experience (in a startup or startup support
organization) required
- Team management experience preferred
- Proven ability to foster community both on and offline in
creative ways.
- Entrepreneurial approach to growth; willingness to both lead
and roll one's sleeves up to get the job done.
- Proficient with marketing, event operations, product, and
project management tools.
