The Center for Consumer Law and Education is a joint consumer assistance project between Marshall University (MU) and WVU College of Law. The CCLE coordinates the development of consumer law, policy, and education research to support and serve consumers. We are committed to empowering and transforming communities. The College of Law at West Virginia University (WVU) invites applications for an Assistant Director of the Center for Consumer Law and Education which is servicing both WVU Law School and Marshall University, beginning July 1, 2024.

The primary areas of responsibility are service to CCLE (80%) and teaching at WVU College of Law(20%).

The ideal candidate has a Juris Doctor (JD) degree and an active West Virginia Start Bar license and membership..

Responsibilities:

1. Project Management: Oversee ongoing and new projects, ensuring they align with CCLE's joint mission and goals serving both WVU and MU. This includes the Investment Simulation, Financial EmpowerED, Consumer Law Luminary Fellowship Program, CCLE Awareness Events, and the continuing projects including the People’s Law School, “How to Navigate a Magistrate Court Claim” website and other existing projects..

2. Collaboration Facilitation: Foster collaboration between the directors, faculty, students, and external partners involved in various initiatives, ensuring seamless communication and coordination.

3. Financial Oversight: Help to manage the budget and financial aspects of projects and initiatives, making sure resources are allocated efficiently and proposing strategies to maximize the impact of the CCLE’s funding sources; seek grant, contract, and gift funding to sustain CCLE.

4. Outreach and Promotion: Develop strategies to increase awareness of CCLE's initiatives, events, and research findings, creating a broader impact on consumers and the community.

5. Student Engagement: Oversee student-centric initiatives, including the Student Fellowship Program and projects related to financial literacy, ensuring students receive enriching educational experiences.

6. Website Development: Lead the development of content for our interactive website, making information accessible and engaging for various stakeholders

7. Event Coordination: Organize and coordinate events like the Consumer Law Summit and speaker series, facilitating collaboration with CCLE partners.

8. Continuing Legal Education (CLE): Manage the organization of CLE programs, ensuring they meet the evolving needs of legal professionals in the field of consumer law.

9. Research Support: Assist in collecting research ideas, coordinating with committee members, directors, and facilitating ongoing consumer research initiatives.

10. Strategic Planning: Contribute to the strategic planning process, aligning short-term and long-term goals with the overall vision of CCLE.

11. Monitoring and Evaluation: Establish metrics for success, monitor progress, and evaluate the effectiveness of initiatives, providing regular updates to the directors and the board.

12. Liaison with Consumer Law Centers: Strengthen collaborations with other Consumer Law Centers, including the exploration of partnerships with Berkley's Center for Consumer Law.

13. Educational Programming: Contribute to educational programming and explore innovative ways to integrate consumer law into the curriculum at WVU and MU, encourage related departments and centers at WVU and MU to collaborate with CCLE in areas of coordinating expertise.

14. Teach at least one class each academic year at the WVU College of Law and encourage and support student involvement in CCLE at both institutions.

15. Attend all CCLE committee meetings and work with other consumer groups in West Virginia and elsewhere;

16. Additional duties as assigned to enhance CCLE and the joint project at both institutions.

Qualifications :

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active West Virginia Start Bar license and membership.

• Experience in consumer law, policy, or related field.

• Strong legal research and analytical skills.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.

• Commitment to advancing consumer rights and education.
