The Haenicke Institute for Global Education at Western Michigan
University invites applications for Director of Study Abroad and
International Enrichment. The Director of Study Abroad and
International Enrichment is responsible for the development and
execution of strategies to increase study abroad participation. In
addition, the director serves as an integral part of
the Haenicke Institute for Global Education (HIGE) at
Western Michigan University. Reporting to the Associate
Provost of the Haenicke Institute, the Director of Study
Abroad and International Enrichment provides overall leadership,
management, and supervision of the Study Abroad Unit. The
director develops and manages scholarships, and assesses and
evaluates current and potential programs and sites, while remaining
up to date on best practices and developments in education abroad
and international education. This position also serves as part
of the Haenicke Institute for Global Education’s leadership team
and assists with strategic planning.
The Haenicke Institute for Global Education (HIGE), established by
the Board of Trustees in 1998, creates, leads and sustains an
environment which facilitates global engagement at WMU. The
Haenicke Institute is comprised of over 60 professional staff and
faculty, led by an Associate Provost. HIGE staff works closely with
international education committees and projects within and across
colleges. In the 2018-19 academic year, Western Michigan University
and the Haenicke Institute for Global Education assisted 670
students in their study abroad programs.
