Description

The Wilmer Eye Institute is recruiting a Research Associate to investigate the interaction of retinal vasculature and neurosensory retinal thickness in systemic vascular diseases such as diabetic retinopathy and cerebral small vessel disease. The successful applicant will help lead a research program directed at using retinal imaging methods such as optical coherence tomography, optical coherence tomography angiography, adaptive optics, high-resolution visible light OCT among others to characterize the retinal capillary changes associated with systemic vascular disease. He/she will also work on developing novel imaging protocols and methods, recruiting and imaging human subjects and supporting the overall research program under the supervision of the Principal Investigator. The position requires a Ph.D. and/or M.D. (or equivalent), 4 or more years of postdoctoral training, at least 10 peer reviewed publications (2 or more first-authored), and hands on experience in human subject research. The successful applicant will be expected to generate grant funding to support the research program, and preference will be given to applicants who already have active grant funding or have demonstrated an ability to write competitive grant applications.

Qualifications

The position requires a Ph.D. and/or M.D. (or equivalent),two or more years of postdoctoral training, including hands on experience and expertise in human subjects research. The successful applicant will be expected to generate publications and grant funding to support the research program.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
