Marketing and Communications Specialist, Part-Time (50%)

Job Summary

The Marketing & Communications Specialist is part of the RIO communications team and is responsible for the execution of marketing and communications strategies and the development of communication assets and other materials as assigned by the Research & Innovation (RIO) Senior Director of Research Communications. This position will primarily focus on driving marketing and communications efforts for the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Initiative. The position will support additional RIO marketing and communications needs as appropriate.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Marketing & Communications Lead
  • Create and disseminate targeted content supporting Innovation & Entrepreneurship and RIO content strategies through communication via area, department, campus and external communication channels.
  • Content produced will include marketing copy, stories (from brief blurbs to features), digital graphics, photography/videos, social media posts, email newsletters and more.
  • Serve as campus marketing and communications lead for the Innovation & Entrepreneurship ecosystems, encouraging new and existing relationships with on-campus partners to collaborate across and beyond campus. Involves supporting and familiarizing partners with both campus and Innovation & Entrepreneurship specific systems, processes and platforms (such as Eventbrite, WebExpress, Localist, internal documentation and more) and convening groups to plan and complete important initiatives and events.
  • Provide significant event marketing and communications support for CU Boulder’s annual signature Innovation & Entrepreneurship events plus a number of small-scale events and programs throughout the year.
Social Media, Email Marketing & Vendor Coordination
  • Develop, evolve and manage websites, landing pages and social media platforms.
  • Manage and maintain contacts and audience segments using Salesforce CRM to support email marketing strategies critical to the success of a variety of the Innovation & Entrepreneurship efforts.
  • Identify, select and be responsible for relationships with on-campus and external vendors for projects such as photography/videography needs and event production (in person and virtual).
Print Material Management & Media Engagement
  • Establish, produce and manage print materials such as brochures, postcards, flyers, event collateral, etc. to support Innovation & Entrepreneurship and RIO.
  • Identify timely and targeted opportunities for media promotion and liaise with Strategic Relations and Communications team to drive quality press coverage of CU Boulder innovation through media engagement.
Analytics & Assessment
  • Maintain web, email and social media analytic reports and assess the effectiveness of these communications.

What You Should Know
  • This part-time position offers a hybrid work modality with at least 1-2 days in the office per week and the ability to occasionally attend events during evenings and weekend days.

What We Can Offer

The hiring range for this 50% part-time position is $28,000-$33,000 annually.

What We Require
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing or related field and one year of professional communications experience in writing, editing, digital marketing, graphic design or related public relations areas, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.

What We Would Like You to Have
  • One year of professional experience in areas including one or more of the following:
    • Writing and editing, from marketing content and social media posts to headlines, story blurbs and feature stories
    • Use of social media to engage professional audiences (such as companies, state entities, peer universities) and individuals (such as prospective students, graduate students, community members, etc.)
    • Proficiency with digital marketing tools, including CRM systems and email campaigns
    • Graphic design
    • Public Relations
  • Experience working with both web and print-based media.
  • Project management experience including the ability to set and meet timelines and track project progress, communicating scheduling challenges during project management.
  • Experience with marketing and communications in research or higher education.
  • Experience with CRM tools and email marketing.
  • Experience with graphic design is a bonus.
  • Experience with design tools or programs such as Adobe InDesign, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe PhotoShop and Adobe Illustrator.
