Assistant Professor of Applied Mathematics (APMA) in the Center for Applied Mathematics in the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Virginia. The position is a teaching-track academic general faculty position. The responsibilities of the position will include teaching up to four Applied Mathematics courses per academic year, along with teaching one or two sections of “Introduction to Engineering.” This specific position serves as faculty advisor to entry-level engineering students and includes advising on course selection and major/field of study.

Applicants must hold an advanced degree in applied mathematics, mathematics, or mathematics education; engineering; or a closely related field with a strong mathematical component.
The strongest candidates will have a demonstrated record of or strong interest in using innovative and evidence-based teaching practices and working in a collaborative, instructional environment. Strong communication skills and the ability to mentor and advise students are required.
Two years of experience instructing at the university level is required (graduate assistant teaching experience and co-instructor experience are acceptable).
To be considered for a position as an Assistant Professor, applicants must have a PhD degree by the start date. Along with teaching, faculty in professorial positions also have service responsibilities and will be expected to engage in either discipline or educational scholarship activities for promotion.
