Lecturer (Sociology)

The Department of Sociology, Anthropology, & Criminal Justice in the College of Humanities & Social Sciences seeks applicants for a non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of lecturer beginning August 1, 2022.  The lecturer position is renewable with a pathway for possible promotion to senior lecturer. The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the candidate’s area of expertise and participate in service at the department and college level.

The department is comprised of 17 full-time faculty serving over 500 majors in three programs and two graduate programs. The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching courses predominately in the Sociology program, teaching undergraduate and graduate Sociology courses.

RESPONSIBLITIES:

Teaching a 5-5 course load in the undergraduate and graduate Sociology programs with the opportunity to teach an Anthropology course as well and participate in service at the department and college level.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master’s degree in Sociology;
• Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning;
• Commitment to diversity and inclusion.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Doctorate degree in Sociology by appointment date;
• A record of effective teaching appropriate to the applicant’s career stage;

• Ability to teach in both a face-to-face and online modality;
• Ability to teach at least one or two courses in Anthropology;

• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting;

• A record of mentoring students of diverse backgrounds in experiential learning such as undergraduate research.
