Assistant Director for Research Engagement and Educational Programming

The College of Applied Health Sciences is accepting applications for an Assistant Director for Research Engagement and Educational Programming. This position will serve as a technical expert concerning veteran and military connected research issues, research investigator and theorist of veteran/military culture, grant writer and manager, coordinator of undergraduate and graduate educational programming for veteran studies, liaison to veteran and military service organizations, and outreach specialist to the veteran community. Due to the primary research and academic components of this position and the expectations that the Assistant Director will interact and collaborate with faculty throughout the campus, the position may include appointment as a teaching, research, or clinical faculty member (depending on qualifications) in the Department of Kinesiology and Community Health (contingent on departmental vote). The Assistant Director will report directly to the Director of the CVC (Chez Veteran Center).

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Research

  • Lead and manage the research infrastructure of the CVC called the Military Service Knowledge Collaborative (MSKC)
  • Develop and maintain databases of University of Illinois researchers and military-connected individuals for Veteran/Military research collaborations
  • Contribute to research grant proposals as an investigator and/or project manager
  • Publish literature on Veteran/Military specific content
  • Manage and coordinate the yearly CVC Seed Grant Research Program and Student Research Award
  • Liaise with campus units to support Veteran/Military research at the University of Illinois
  • In conjunction with CHAD, assist faculty in identifying and applying for sources of sponsored funding specific to Veteran/Military research
  • Build the MSKC's reach nationally through partnerships with other veteran/military centers in the country
  • Supervise research interns and act as a resource Educational Programming
  • Assist the Director in developing strategic undergraduate and graduate Veteran/Military focused educational programming
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses on Veteran/Military content
  • Develop and deliver presentations and workshops/trainings for stakeholders including faculty, industry, clinical and community partners, and funding agencies
  • Serve on student committees for theses and dissertations for students engaged in veteran/military research
  • Contribute subject matter expertise for academic development with other campus departments and colleges in the area of Veteran/Military culture Engagement
  • Establish and maintain industry relationships at the local, state, and national level to facilitate strategic partnerships between faculty and relevant stakeholders for the development of grant proposals to support Military/Veteran research across campus
  • Organize community events (e.g., annual Veterans Day celebration for the CVC)
  • Develop and manage a CVC "Veteran Engagement Team” to advise & consult on MSKC research ideas and development
  • Build and maintain web-based/social media initiatives for the CVC and MSKC
  • Demonstrate citizenship through service on college and campus committees

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

Doctorate in the social or human sciences, education, engineering, law, medicine, or relevant field.

Experience with Veteran/Military community engagement activities and forming research partnerships with stakeholders.

Ability to work independently and effectively on multiple priorities under deadline pressure.

Excellent verbal and written communication, time management, organizational, and solution-focused skills required.

 

Preferred:

Direct experience in managing an office overseeing and conducting veteran/military focused research.

Experience with the development and delivery of Veteran/Military focused academic programs.

Experience with faculty collaborations on Veteran/Military specific grant proposals.

 

SALARY

Competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

 

APPOINTMENT STATUS AND START DATE

This is a full-time (100%), 12 month Academic Professional appointment. The proposed start is as soon as possible after the closing date.
