The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), part of the State University of New York and an internationally renowned college of art, design, business and technology with a strong emphasis on liberal arts, invites nominations and applications for a Customer Service Representative in the Office of Admissions.



Under the direction of the Admissions Operations Manager, the Customer Service Representative (CBA Title: Student Services Representative II) will provide front line customer service support for the Office of Admissions by responding to telephone inquiries and providing detailed direction for various Admissions procedures.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions

  • Provide front line customer service support for the Office of Admissions by responding to telephone inquiries and providing detailed direction for various Admissions procedures. 
  • Advise and guide prospective applicants and families, current FIT students, and current applicants through FIT's website with emphasis on the admissions application process and other college related procedures. 
  • Access Banner, NOLIJ, and/or Hobsons Connect to research applicant/student information. 
  • Assess and problem solve situations and investigate their need for further assistance. Consult with the Admissions Operations Manager or others as needed, on more complex issues. 
  • Responsible for acquiring information from other FIT offices when applicants or current FIT students have unsolved problems or situations. 
  • Report any problems to the Admissions Operations Manager that arise regarding the automated telephone queuing system, phone tree, etc. 
  • Assist with training other phone personnel and/or others assisting with phone coverage. 
  • During peak periods, assist with processing transcripts, mail opening and other duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma required. 
  • 2-4 years of appropriate business experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree.
  • 1-2 years of experience in customer service, admissions or higher education preferred. 
  • Prior experience using Banner, NOLIJ software systems, and Hobsons/Campus Management CRM preferred. 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Computer skills with an emphasis on data entry required.
  • Quality customer service skills, excellent telephone manner and the ability to work well under pressure are also required.
  • Experience working in a college or university preferred.
  • Experience using Banner, NOLIJ software systems, and Hobsons/Campus Management CRM preferred.

Salary: $42,895 - $45,968 per year

The UCE-FIT Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) dictates the compensation, benefits, and conditions of employment. Hiring Salary: $42,895 to $45,968 per year with step increments per Salary Schedule 88, after one year of service and annually thereafter.

Days/Hours: M-F, 9am-5pm, in person; work schedule subject to change based on needs of the department.
