Job Description:


The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, invite applications for a full-time, tenure-track position (F0070) in Computer Science to begin August 2022. All areas of specialization will be considered.

The department, housed in the Cook-Cole College of Arts and Sciences, offers Bachelor's degrees in Computer Science and Mathematics, with an option for a secondary education endorsement in the latter. Opportunities exist for collaboration with faculty in the Information Systems and Cyber Security program offered through Longwood's College of Business and Economics. The department supports a dedicated academic computing laboratory of Linux workstations for teaching and research. Students in the major have access to a complete Linux command line for developing software projects. For more information about the department, see http://www.longwood.edu/mathcs/.

Professional responsibilities include teaching 12 credit hours per semester of undergraduate courses, including introductory programming and upper-level computer science courses as well as courses in Longwood's Civitae Core Curriculum.

In addition to the primary responsibility of teaching, faculty are also expected to advise students effectively, to make service contributions, and to engage in scholarship and professional activity, including undergraduate research. 

 

Requirements:

Terminal degree required.  ABD or Ph.D. in Computer Science (or equivalent) preferred; Ph.D. in Mathematics or related field with Master's Degree in Computer Science considered. (ABD candidates must have an expected completion date by August 2022 for preferred consideration.) Candidates with demonstrated college teaching ability preferred. A demonstrated commitment and ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and constituents in support of the university mission is required.

 

Additional Information:

This is a full-time, tenure-track, instructional faculty position. Salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience. Commonwealth of Virginia benefits accompany this position.  A successful criminal background investigation is required.
