Founded in 1819 and named for its location in the middle of the State of Kentucky, Centre College opened its doors in the fall of 1820 with a single building, a faculty of two, and a student body of five. Today, there are approximately 1,400 students and 150 full-time faculty members in three divisions: Arts & Humanities, Social Studies, and Sciences & Mathematics. The College awards more than $47 million in scholarships and grants each year and more than 90 percent of students receive aid. Position Summary


The next Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, and Treasurer (CFO) therefore joins Centre College at an exciting time, where as a member of senior leadership, they will play a critical role in realizing the bold ambitions that the institution has for its future and in the continued development and execution of the strategic plan moving forward. The Chief Financial Officer serves as a critical strategic partner and trusted adviser to the president, his senior leadership team, and the Centre College Board of Trustees. The CFO is provides guidance and leadership to ensure the efficient and effective stewardship of the College's financial and physical resources. This individual oversees all finance functions, including budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, long-range financial planning, investment management, liability management and risk management. The CFO is also responsible for facilities. They will play a vital role in executing the College’s strategic plan, in supporting the development of future strategic priorities, and ensuring a collaborative, productive relationship with rest of the administrative functions and the faculty.


Candidates with diverse backgrounds will be considered, although ideal candidates will have demonstrated experience and success in the following areas:


Over 15 years of experience providing strategic financial and operational leadership in a complex organization. Strong analytical skills, technical capabilities, and in-depth knowledge of a broad range of financial, operational, and risk management principles and practices, including enterprise-wide systems implementation and usage and data driven decision making. Experience with interdisciplinary initiatives and programs. Commitment to, track record of, and impact in the area of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Experience building and leading in an inclusive environment.  Success with building collaborative initiatives. Experience as an effective manager with the confidence to delegate, empower, and mentor a talented team, including best-in-class professional development opportunities for staff. Strong academic credentials required, including a preference for an M.B.A. or a related graduate degree.
