Salary: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour DOE


This is a grant-funded position. Grant-funded positions expire either at the end of the stated term or whenever funding for the position ceases.


The part-time YouthBuild Construction Trainer will work with underrepresented youth 18 - 24 years of age at the MVCC Education Outreach Center and construction sites. This trainer's primary role is to train and equip students with hands on vocational skills that lead to employment (National Center for Construction Education and Research-NCCER), apprenticeships and post secondary education. This position requires role modeling the way as low income housing is built meeting the Department of Labor and MVCC regulations.




Major Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates weekly/daily schedule with YouthBuild Director/Coordinator to implement a two and two hands on split programming in Utica and Rome area;
  • Takes the lead on the teaching and certification of students as they work at the various locations in the community, planning and time management, follow and adhere to the request for proposal for worksites and assist the development of MOU's with partner agencies;
  • Uses technology to teach classes and potentially implement virtual coursework as needed .


Qualifications:


Required Qualifications:

Experience with young adults. Cross training with the YouthBuild team for National Center for Construction Education and Research-NCCER (based years of construction or related experience). Must possess a strong commitment to helping young people succeed in an innovative training program to reorient their lives, nurture their personal/academic and leadership skills and enable them to make a difference in their community. Ability to establish rapport and relate sensitively to a multiracial and multicultural group of young people. Understanding of the issues facing young people in the community where the program is located and a willingness to learn from young people. Effective interpersonal and problem-solving skills and the ability to relate to a wide range of issues, people and institutions. A valid driver license at the time of hire and for the duration of the appointment, as there is transporting of students to events/worksites.

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate's degree or High School Diploma/HSE with minimum of five or more years experience in the Construction field as well as National Center for Construction Education and Research-NCCER and OSHA 10 certifications.
