Description

The Department of Theater at Dartmouth College (Hanover, NH) invites applications for a non-tenure-track Lecturer for a 9-month appointment, beginning September 1, 2024. The person in this position will teach four courses over three quarters (Fall, Winter, Spring). The course assignment will include: two survey courses in theater history (Classical and Medieval Performance; Early Modern Performance), one course related to the candidate’s area of specialization, and one course-equivalent for mentoring student directors throughout the year. The position comes with a competitive salary and pro-rated benefits.

The Department of Theater and Dartmouth are committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive population of students, faculty, and staff. Dartmouth recently launched a new initiative, Toward Equity , which embraces shared definitions of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging as a foundation for our success in institutional transformation. We are especially interested in applicants who are able to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from all backgrounds and with different identities and attributes. Applicants should address in their cover letter how their teaching, research, service, and/or life experiences prepare them to advance Dartmouth’s commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Qualifications

PhD in theater, performance studies, or a closely related field; ABDs will also be considered, with proof of thesis defense by Sept 1, 2024. Teaching experience in theater history as well as directing experience are strongly preferred. The department welcomes innovative teaching approaches that bridge theater studies and practice.

2) Curriculum vitae, including the names of references (at least one of which should be able to comment on the applicant’s teaching). Reference letters will be requested of finalists.

Review of applications will begin on April 10, 2024, with further applications accepted until the position is filled. If you have questions regarding this position, please contact Laura Edmondson at Laura.Edmondson@dartmouth.edu .
