Non-Tenure-Track, Visiting Lecturer; Geoscience


The Department of Geoscience at the University of North Alabama invites applications for a full-time, temporary appointment as Visiting Lecturer in Geography beginning August 15, 2024. The successful candidate will teach introductory human, physical, and world regional geography courses. The candidate may also have the opportunity to teach a course related to their field of expertise if there is departmental need. The successful candidate will teach 15 credit hours per semester and must have a strong commitment to excellence in student-centered teaching. Applications will be considered until the position is filled but those received by March 31, 2024 will receive preference.  This position is non-renewable and is only available for one year. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the US.  We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.


A master’s degree in Geography, or a closely-related field, from an accredited institution is required by the start of the appointment.  A Ph.D. in Geography, or a closely-related field is preferred.  ABD will be accepted provided the candidate possesses the required educational background via a master’s degree as well.  A record of successful college-level teaching of a variety of introductory geography courses, including human, physical, and world regional geography, in a variety of formats, modalities, and class sizes, is preferred.

Electronic copies, if available, of unofficial transcripts may be attached under the attachment headings of Unofficial Transcript 1, Unofficial Transcript 2, etc. Electronic copies of unofficial/official transcripts may also be requested to be sent to Official transcripts must be sent directly to HR from the issuing school via email to be considered official. Transcripts with a designation of “Issued to Student”, or with the student name listed as the recipient will not be considered official. Official transcripts will be required of the successful candidate prior to the start date of the appointment, but unofficial copies will be accepted for the application process.
