The Associate Dean, Undergraduate Business Programs serves as the chief operating officer of VSB’s undergraduate and related business programs, the Clay Center for undergraduate student services at VSB, and the O’Donnell Center for Professional Development. The Associate Dean is responsible for leading the strategic and academic direction for and the administration of the undergraduate programs at VSB and for the strategic direction and performance of the Clay Center, O’Donnell Center, as well as the operational function of the office.

The Associate Dean, Undergraduate Business Programs, reports to the Senior Associate Dean of Teaching and Programs. The Associate Dean works in collaboration with the department chairs, faculty and staff to ensure that the program achieves increasingly higher levels of academic quality and recognition. In keeping with the overarching mission and strategy of VSB, the Associate Dean:

  • Provides overall strategic and operational management of VSB’s undergraduate curriculum, programs, majors, and minors;
  • Leads team of professionals advising, professional development, VSB student services, relevant data analysis and the overall operation of the Clay Center office; Leads initiatives related to the college’s strategic plan that include updating curriculum, DEI training and integrating competencies into the student experience;
  • Manages relationships with department chairs and faculty on issues related to undergraduate programs;
  • Serves as a representative of the VSB leadership team on college and university committees.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Provides overall strategic and operational management to the team and ensures excellence in every aspect of service delivery;
  • Conducts regularly scheduled staff meetings and oversees the performance evaluation process for the Clay Center and O’Donnell Center staff.
  • Works closely with the Assistant Dean, Undergraduate Advising to deliver world-class academic advising and holistic support for undergraduate VSB students;
  • Works closely with the Assistant Dean, Professional Development to manage the O’Donnell Center for Professional Development, including professional development programs for internships, Co-Ops, career education, business societies, the mentor program and corporate relations; oversees scheduling, staffing and hiring for the Backpack-to-Briefcase initiative (professional development curriculum);
  • Manages the internal and external transfer review process;
  • Recruits faculty and schedules the Business Dynamics and Professional Development courses;
  • Responsible for the administration of the Academic Year Business Minor program;
  • Serves as the chief operating officer of summer business programs including the Summer Business Institute and the Summer Business Academy, both revenue-producing programs;
  • Works closely with the Director, Summer and Business Minor Programs;
  • Works closely with the Director, Davis Fund for Student Experience, to oversee the Fund, market the program and ensure equitable distribution of funds.

Undergraduate curriculum, programs, majors, and minors

  • Oversees the development and implementation of new curricula, programs, majors and minors for VSB undergraduate students;
  • Serves as the point of contact for faculty, academic departments, and department chairs on issues related to the undergraduate experience and curriculum.

Student Facing

  • Resolves student and parent academic concerns and issues;
  • Addresses VSB undergraduate student emergencies;
  • Serves as the point of contact for students and parents and the Counseling Center/Health Center for Medical Leaves of Absence;
  • Works closely with the Dean of Students Office on student related matters;
  • Administers academic integrity violations and implements the associated educational program.


  • Serves as a VSB representative at various university events;
  • Serves as the VSB representative on university-wide committees, including but not limited to:
  • Board of Assistant and Associates Deans (BAAD);
  • Concern and Review Committee (CARE);
  • Admissions Recruitment and Advisory Committee. ·
  • Works closely with Undergraduate Admissions, participating in first-year application and transfer student review, including Academic Achievement Program applications (CASA program).


  • Serves as the undergraduate program representative to internal college committees including, but not limited to:
    • Dean’s Academic Council;
    • Undergraduate Program Committee;
    • Presidential Scholars Committee;
    • Chairperson, Academic Standing and Admissions Committee;
    • Managing the Dean’s Undergraduate Student Advisory Council (DUSAC) and the Young Alumni Advisory Council (YAAC).

Perform additional duties and assist with special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualification:

  • Master’s degree or higher, preferably in business or a related field, or in higher education.
  • Minimum 12 years of experience in an academic environment including at least five years in a leadership role.
  • Experience with managing and leading a cross-functional team, including hiring and administering performance management and team evaluation process.
  • Experience in setting the strategic direction for and management of curricula.
  • Experience working with undergraduate students in an academic environment.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging undergraduate student populations
  • The individual will have exceptional communication, leadership, and management skills.
  • The individual will possess the ability to complete projects in a timely fashion.
  • The individual must maintain the highest ethical standards.
  • The individual can improve organizational effectiveness and results by providing strategic positioning, direction and leadership.
  • The individual must be an energetic self-starter who will seek out new and creative ways to strengthen Villanova’s undergraduate business programs.
  • The individual must have a deep commitment to the well-being of the Villanova School of Business and the University, a commitment to the University’s Catholic/Augustinian heritage, and the advancement of its mission, and to serving the needs of a diverse community.
  • The individual selected must have thorough knowledge of and proven success with carrying out a leadership role within a higher education environment.
  • The individual must demonstrate successful experience in academic administration, including curriculum management.
  • The individual selected will be a collaborative leader with exceptional interpersonal, writing, organizational, and strategic management skills, and a demonstrated commitment to the well-being of a diverse community of students.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of experience in an academic environment including at least five years in a leadership role.
  • Experience providing academic advising and/or professional development services to undergraduate students.
  • Significant experience and proven success in business education program development, including knowledge of trends in undergraduate business programs.
  • Experience leading curricular innovation in a business school.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve organizational effectiveness and results by providing strategic positioning, direction, and leadership.
  • Active participation in academic and business associations/organizations.
  • A leadership role within a business-specific higher education environment, and successful experience in academic administration.
  • Additional consideration will be given to candidates having one or more of the following:
    • Prior business industry experience.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage change within an organization in response to changing external factors
