Summary of Job Duties:The Staff Accountant is responsible for assisting with the accounts receivable services of the university along with varied other finance responsibilities in coordination with the Bursar. The position is governed by generally accepted accounting practices and procedures and institutional policies. This position reports to the Bursar.

Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Work Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or other job-related education and/or accounting experience may be substituted for part of these requirements.

Preferred Education and/or Work Experience: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related business field from an accredited college or university. Experience in Student Accounts Receivable, Workday or Banner enterprise management systems, licensed Certified Public Accountant.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintain university accounts receivable systems related to cashiering and student accounts receivable modules including testing, security, and implementation.
  • Assist with accounting operations of student accounts to include reconciliation, billing and charges for unique programs, year-end close out procedures, debt collections, and required federal and state reporting.
  • Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to foster teamwork.
  • Requires consistent on-time attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: To perform the job successfully, the following competencies are required for the essential functions of this position:
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of general accounting practices (GAAP)
  • Knowledge and understanding of business principles and practices
  • Knowledge of state and agency/institution accounts payable laws, and procedures
  • Strong attention to detail; with the ability to read, analyze and interpret data
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service internally and externally
  • Ability to work with a diverse staff and a diverse customer base
  • Ability to provide input on ideas of helping to build a more diverse and inclusive work environment
