Brief Summary of Work for this Position

The Director will report to the Associate Dean of the Cameron School of Business and work in collaboration with a dynamic group of staff, faculty, and other professionals at the Swain Center, Cameron School of Business, and the University. The Director of the Swain Center has oversight of the executive and professional education programs and economic services that the Center provides to the community, including managing the Center’s strategy, identifying, and pursuing growth opportunities, managing program resources, and overseeing the quality of program delivery. The Director creates and leads a wide range of activities related to professional, executive, and economic development programs and activities, including events; directs the marketing and sales function; maintains and develops corporate client relationships; and ensures the programs are successful.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Master’s degree in Business Administration (or comparable combination of education and experience) in a field of study relating to industrial/organizational psychology, organizational behavior, leadership, or human resources; knowledge in other business disciples (e.g., operations management, business analytics, marketing) required;
  • Demonstrated experience with consulting projects that include client identification, discovery process, needs assessment, program design, identification of deliverables, proposal development, effective pricing, accurate budgeting, and program delivery; and
  • Knowledge of consulting, client development, and client management best practices for human capital and management/leadership practices in public, private, and nonprofit entities; internal and external consulting experience is strongly preferred.

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The Swain Center for Executive Education and Economic Development is committed to enhancing the effectiveness of organizations in the region and the state of North Carolina through economic services and executive and professional education. The Center’s partnership with the Cameron School of Business is able to leverage the expertise of its faculty in providing industry-university connections in the delivery of products and services to the region. UNCW’s values of excellence, integrity, diversity, innovation, and community engagement provide the foundation and philosophy out of which flow the aspirations for the Swain Center. With its resources of talent and acumen, the Swain Center is equipped to meet the needs of the region and state of North Carolina by providing high-touch, personalized experiences in executive and professional education. The primary market is small- to mid-size businesses in the region, including the Myrtle Beach metropolitan Statistical Area. The secondary market will meet specialized needs for either larger organizations with a presence in the state or as a destination location for industries with continuing education needs (e.g., insurance and financial planning). There is a need for organizations today to benefit greatly by becoming learning organizations as they strive for excellence. As such, UNCW envisions the Swain Center as a place to foster meaningful partnerships with other University entities that generate new approaches to organizational and talent development that help drive performance for the Center’s clients.
