Scope of Job:
The College of Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) seeks applicants for multiple faculty positions for a college-wide cluster hire in the broad areas of machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data science with applications in autonomous systems, bioinformatics, manufacturing, energy systems, sensing and condition monitoring, robotics, wireless systems, and other emerging technology fields. Successful candidates will contribute to one or more of the following research centers in the College of Engineering & Computer Science: The Center for Advanced Manufacturing Innovation and Cyber Systems (CAMICS), the Center for Nanotechnology, the Industrial Assessment Center, the NSF Center for Multidisciplinary Research Excellence in Cyber-Physical Infrastructure Systems (MECIS), and the University Transportation Center for Railway Safety (UTCRS). The college hosts an interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in materials science and engineering, and a Ph.D. program in computer science with interdisciplinary applications expected in Fall 2024. The Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering (MAIE) department at UTRGV offers an ABET accredited bachelor's degree of Manufacturing Engineering, a Master of Science degree in Manufacturing Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Engineering Management. The department supports the Ph.D. programs in Materials Science and Engineering, and the Ph.D. in Computer Science with Interdisciplinary Applications expected in Fall 2024. The positions are for tenure track assistant professors; however, exceptional candidates may be considered for credit toward time on tenure track or for appointment as associate professor. With strong focuses on manufacturing systems, optimization, supply chain management, additive and convergent manufacturing, robotics and industry autonomy, cyber manufacturing, and energy and semiconductor manufacturing, the faculty and students contribute to the national priority of build a world-class manufacturing base and support both industrial and national manufacturing needs. Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and/or a related field from an accredited university (at least conferred before the start date of September 1, 2024). Prospective candidates with teaching and research on ML/AI with applications in all manufacturing related areas are strongly encouraged to apply.

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications:
Candidates should be able to teach undergraduate/graduate core courses, develop laboratories, initiate externally funded research, have publications of research results in archival journals and/or conference proceedings and are expected to support the B.S., M.S., and the PhD programs in computer science with interdisciplinary applications. We seek scholars whose research agenda aims to develop new methods and understanding in machine learning and AI algorithms, optimization, data science, with applications in manufacturing processes, augmented/mixed reality/digital twin, intelligent transportation systems, robotics, health care, material science, and where the research simultaneously informs progress in AI and advances department, institution, and societal goals. Candidates must be willing to offer or teach courses in machine learning, AI, control and robotics, digital twin, cyber systems, and are expected to have the potential for collaboration with faculty in the department and the CAMICS center. Candidates are also expected to lead and propose new research projects and proposals to attract external federal, state, or industrial funding, such as NSF, DoD, DOE, USDOT, NASA, or others.

Preferred Qualification:
The highest consideration will be given to applicants who have expertise in Artificial Intelligence and/or Machine Learning with applications in Manufacturing. Postdoctoral research experience is preferred for the position. Excellent communication skills and teamwork ability are preferred. Additional preferred qualification include: 1) experience and/or demonstrated ability developing and teaching courses integrating machine learning, artificial intelligence, data science, and/or intelligent engineering systems content within the context of manufacturing engineering applications, 2) experience and/or demonstrated ability to lead and propose new research projects and proposals to attract external federal, state, or private funding, such as NSF, DoD, DOE, DARPA, NIH, USDOT, NASA, or others, 3) experience and/or demonstrated ability teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering, 4) Strong communication skills and the capacity to collaborate effectively within a team, and (5) demonstrated ability to play a collaborative role as a team member in initiatives for partnerships with schools, community colleges, government agencies, and industry to create an eco-system that will bring economic prosperity to the Rio Grande Valley.

Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
