High Point University invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology with an expected start date of August 2024. The position will end in May 2025, but the successful candidate is encouraged to apply for a planned open Assistant Professor (promotion track) position to begin in August 2025. An active research program with undergraduates is not expected for the Visiting Assistant Professor position but will be expected for the planned Assistant Professor position.

 

Responsibilities include teaching introductory and advanced biology courses, advising biology majors, and service to the department, school, and university. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence.   

 

Preference will be given to candidates with teaching and/or research experience in one or more of the following areas: genetics (emphasizing molecular aspects of genetics), human and animal/comparative physiology, human and comparative anatomy, cell signaling/physiology, embryology, histology, and bioinformatics. A Ph.D. in biology or a closely related field is required, and post-doctoral experience is preferred.  

 

The position includes laboratory and office space in our new state-of-the-art science building, which houses the Departments of Biology, Chemistry, Neuroscience and Physics in the Wanek School of Natural Sciences. The Biology Department offers majors and minors in Biology and serves the University more broadly by providing courses for the general education and honors curricula.  Biology courses serve as foundational elements of applied and health science degrees at High Point University.
