Position Announcement

Working within Event Services and Risk Management, this position performs semi-skilled technical and clerical duties in support of the Production arm of Event Services. Helps in the planning and implementation of all technical aspects of DSU Event Services productions while also maintaining all production spaces. This position will work with the lighting, sound, media and rigging systems, coordinates materials budgets, performs maintenance and inventory on equipment, and helps maintain a safe working environment. Responsible for mentoring and training student workers in all areas of technical theatre and event services. Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the production process by actively participating in strategic meetings and ongoing coordination with producers and clients.
  • Program, operate, and strike lighting, audio, projection and special effects equipment for all functions of the Event Services Production department.
  • Oversee and be responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of venue equipment.
  • Interpret technical riders from professional companies, fulfilling pre-production requirements.
  • Operate and maintain stage lighting equipment, audio equipment, video equipment, stage equipment, and communication systems.
  • Operate and assist in the maintenance of fly rail systems, rigging systems, rigging motors, truss, rigging equipment, etc.
  • Perform repairs and preventative maintenance on all production and venue equipment. Maintain a clean, orderly and professional venue and work environment.
  • Oversee inventory of all production and venue equipment.
  • Perform guest service, house and stage management functions of event setup, operation and take down.
  • Perform basic administrative duties within Event Services Production, as warranted.
  • Assist other Event Services and Risk Management department team members and perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent technical expertise required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ work experience in a university/college, event services, and/or performing arts environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the FOH mixing console.
  • Must have skill in programming or display the ability to learn various lighting consoles and software such as the ETC Eos family, GrandMA, Chamsys, and Strand lines of control consoles.
  • Must be proficient in industry standard software; ability to learn with Qlab, ProTools, and WaveLab.
  • Ability to operate and maintain lighting equipment, audio equipment, video equipment, computer equipment, and stage equipment.
  • Good knowledge of electronics, computers and computer networks.
  • Ability to read schemes, diagrams, and to interpret specifications and manufacturer’s manuals.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a collaborative team environment, with an eye to safety.
  • Good understanding of front and back of house management.
  • Ability to setup and strike staging and other support equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Good customer service skills, with the ability to exercise human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with students, employees, and the public.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, evenings, weekends and holidays, depending on event schedule.
  • Ability to work both indoors and within outdoor settings, including varying degrees of weather and in strenuous environments.


Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time classified staff (overtime-eligible) position. Annual salary of $33,000+ depending on qualifications & experience. Desired start date of October 2021.
