TITLE: State Specialist in Entrepreneurship (West Louisville)

JOB SUMMARY:

The State Specialist, within The College of Agriculture, Community, and the Sciences (ACE) at Kentucky State University (KYSU) will provide training, services, and operational initiatives to stakeholders across the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The successful candidate will provide educational resources for Extension personnel, teachers, farmers, and students from KYSU and within the College of ACE as it relates to business and entrepreneurship in agriculture. This position will also create, manage, and maintain a database of stakeholders who are interested in Entrepreneurship in Agriculture. The State Specialist will create partnerships between established businesses, agencies, and foundations to benefit ACE clients and affiliates to better serve the agribusiness community. This position directly reports the Assistant Extension Administrator

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Support the establishment and growth of agribusiness enterprises by preparing and developing educational programing in the ACE Agribusiness program and other programs throughout KYSU
  • Develop and teach business and entrepreneurial educational programing for all county-based Extension personnel.
  • Research and present a prospective database system to maintain organized system of clients, stakeholders, resources, etc.
  • Create, manage, and maintain database of possible Agribusiness stakeholder contacts.
  • Identify new services, trainings, and operational initiatives through research, travel, and best practices of other successful state/national Cooperative Extension programs
  • Relay and promote new services and opportunities for agribusiness clients across the Commonwealth, KSU alumni, and stakeholders
  • Fundraise, through relationships and grant-writing, to grow the Community Economic Development area and programming needed to support entrepreneurial programs
  • Create policies, set goals, and meet with potential clients; may also entail supervise or assist with activities, including marketing, distribution, and sales directly involved with the client’s products and services
  • Connect clients with affiliates and associates that can assist in the growth and expansion of their agribusiness
  • Assist in ACE education programs throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky
  • Provide leadership and support to other State Specialists in counties, as assigned
  • Promote minority involvement within the ACE programs through diversification and expansion of knowledge
  • Prepare reports detailing project accomplishments, problems, and opportunities
  • Write success stories and track program contacts into the Kentucky Extension Reporting System
  • Participate in various Cooperative Extension programs and committees, as assigned
  • Attend meetings in and out-of-state, present, create and coordinate workshops, staff trainings, and create CRD Entrepreneurship programs
  • Other duties assigned by the Program Leader for Community Resource Development

  • Strong interpersonal skills, creativity, technological skills, and attention to detail are important qualities of a skills development facilitator.
  • Organizing and coordinating skills
  • Ability to create, compose and edit written materials.
  • Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
  • Word processing and/or data entry skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain calendars and schedule appointments.
  • Records maintenance skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to perform simple accounting procedures.
  • Skill in the use of operating basic office equipment.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
  • This position does not have supervisory responsibility.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • No or very limited physical effort required.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
OTHER DUTIES:
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's and Master’s degree.
