Minimum Qualifications
The candidate must have a M.Sc. or higher degree in geology or a related field at the time of appointment and must possess a strong commitment to undergraduate education.

We seek a geoscientist with undergraduate geology teaching experience to lead the teaching of a 6-week summer field camp, as well as teaching other geoscience lecture and lab courses during the fall and spring semesters initially on a 1-year contact, with the potential for multi-year renewal.

Description of the Department or Unit
The Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences at Appalachian State University is undergraduate-only with 20 faculty members and more than 360 majors. The Department and the College of Arts and Sciences possess an array of analytical and field equipment that supports the research of 14 tenure-track faculty. Appalachian State is a comprehensive university located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina and is a member of the University of North Carolina System.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
In addition to (co-)leading the 6-week field camp course, teaching responsibilities during the fall and spring semesters may include majors’ courses such as Structural Geology (GES 3150), Evolution of the Earth (GES 2250), a writing-intensive sophomore-level science communication and career preparation course (GES 2750 Careers in Earth and Environmental Science), Introductory Geology Field Methods (GES 2751), and/or courses based on their specialty that support the department’s commitment to field-based education. Other teaching responsibilities may include introductory geology lectures and laboratories in physical geology, historical geology, and/or environmental geology.
