Located in the state capital of Montgomery, AUM serves a diverse student population of approximately 5,400 students and employs faculty/staff of 575 in five academic colleges: Business, Education, Arts and Sciences, Nursing and Health Sciences, and Public Policy and Justice. Montgomery supports cultural attractions including the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, and the Rosa Parks Library and Museum, among others.

The Department of Counselor, Leadership, and Special Education at Auburn University at Montgomery invites applications for a tenure track position in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the Assistant/Associate Professor level to begin Fall 2024. This position is focused on supporting the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program, with the expectation that the candidate will contribute to the other programs in counselor education.

The Counselor Education Program area includes two CACREP accredited programs: the master’s programs in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling, as well as the Education Specialist programs in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling. Required Qualifications: (1) an earned doctoral degree in Counselor Education from a CACREP accredited program with (2) a focus in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Counseling, Community Counseling, or marriage, couple, and family counseling as evidenced by academic preparation and experience in the field; (3) two years of clinical and supervision experience; (4) evidence of counseling, supervision, and teaching experience in counselor education; (5) evidence of the ability to maintain a record of high quality research and scholarship; (6) evidence of the ability to engage in professional service, leadership, and advocacy; (7) evidence of the ability to engage in the integration of advocacy, social justice, cultural competence, and ethical practice into the preparation of counseling professionals; and (8) must hold or be eligible for certification and licensure in the State of Alabama.

Desired Qualifications: (1) demonstrated experience in securing funding for research and program activities; (2) administrative and professional experiences related to clinical mental health counseling; (3) experience in counselor education curriculum evaluation and program development; (4) experience teaching in traditional and online instructional methods; (5) experience or familiarity with the CACREP accreditation process; (6) licensure for supervision or eligible for licensure for supervision is highly desired; (7) extensive demonstrated field experience post degree is highly desired and (8) grant writing experience.

Candidates that are ABD will be considered for employment provided that their terminal degree has been awarded prior to their official hire date.

Responsibilities will include teaching core counselor education courses, supervising practicum and internship students, engaging in research and publication at a level consistent with graduate teaching status, self-study activities, and service at the university, college, departmental and community levels.
