Research Assistant Professor - Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Statler College

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University invites applications for multiple non-tenure-track positions of Research Assistant Professor in the general area of energy materials. The specific subjects of interest include (1) high temperature alloys, high temperature oxidation/corrosion, and (2) fuel cells/electrolysis cells and related electrochemical materials and devices.

Qualifications :

Eligible candidates must hold an earned doctoral degree in materials science, mechanical engineering, or a related field at the time of appointment. Expertise in high temperature alloys/composites synthesis, microstructural, mechanical properties and oxidation/corrosion characterizations is required for the first subject of interest. Expertise in materials synthesis, electrochemical characterization techniques, and microstructural characterization is required for the second area of interest mentioned above.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following primary tasks: (1) planning and conducting laboratory experiments to confirm feasibility of electrochemical devices, processes and techniques used in in-situ monitoring of electrochemical kinetics, noise and other processes; (2) attending research conferences and read scientific literature to keep abreast of technological advances and latest research findings; (3) identifying and assisting with the acquisition of funding from public, private, and governmental sources; (4) searching scientific literature to select and modify methods and procedures most appropriate for related research goals; (5) performing laboratory and field (in a power plant) experimental activities according to proper reliability and safety protocols; (6) overseeing research facilities and personnel; (7) writing and presenting research/study status reports for review and use by the principal investigator; (8) and preparing the results of experimental findings for presentation to colleagues and research sponsors.
